Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, W C Marwing (GOOD LAD) expressed concern with the horse's action. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and trotted up. He said in his opinion the horse was lame in its left front leg and was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of GOOD LAD. Before being allowed to race again, GOOD LAD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GREAT STAR began awkwardly and got its head up. NOBLE HEART and FIRST AMONG EQUALS were slow to begin. FAMOUS BRAND and SOARING ANGEL began awkwardly, then shortly afterwards were steadied when crowded for room between WYNDAM POWER which shifted in slightly and WINWIN COMBINATION which shifted out abruptly. After the 400 Metres, KING OF GAROUPA was momentarily steadied when disappointed for running between ASSET PLAY and ISLAND SPIRIT. Also after the 400 Metres, when placed under pressure ISLAND SPIRIT commenced to race greenly, shifted in and because of this K C Tsang, its rider, stopped riding and straightened. Over the concluding stages, FIRST AMONG EQUALS shifted out. After the 50 Metres, ASSET PLAY, which was giving ground, was reluctant to hold its position on the outside of KING OF GAROUPA. Apprentice M W Leung (GREAT STAR) said he had been instructed to ride the horse along in the early stages, then ensure it was properly balanced over the concluding stages and ride it out as strongly as possible. He said after the 400 Metres GREAT STAR, which was racing closest to the outside running rail, continually looked at the rail and was inclined in his opinion to want to shift away from it, therefore he rode his mount out hands and heels strongly over the concluding stages. The Stewards advised Apprentice Leung they would record his explanation, however, he was reminded to ensure he fully tests his mounts wherever possible. ASSET PLAY, FIRST AMONG EQUALS and KING OF GAROUPA were sent for sampling.
