Racing Incident Report

THE GOV was slow to begin. DONGGUAN VICTORY was a little slow to begin and then was bumped by CHEERFUL HEART which shifted out. On jumping, TRIUMPH and CLANG'S PRIDE bumped. Near the 1400 Metres, GREEN VACATION was bumped by HARVEY MUDD. A Delpech (MASTER MARAUDER) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 1400 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of UNIVERSAL GLORY, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. In the circumstances of this case, it was decided A Delpech should be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 15 December 2003 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin meeting next Wednesday 3 December 2003. In the early stages, CLANG'S PRIDE raced wide and without cover. After the 1100 Metres, EAST OCEAN DRAGON commenced to over-race and was checked to avoid the heels of UNIVERSAL GLORY. At the 600 Metres, DONGGUAN VICTORY was steadied to avoid the heels of KINGSTON GLORY which after shifting out immediately shifted back in. On straightening, TRIUMPH and KINGSTON GLORY bumped due mainly to KINGSTON GLORY shifting out in an endeavour to find clear running. After this, KINGSTON GLORY was steadied and shifted wider to find clear running. From about the 300 Metres until after the 200 Metres, TRIUMPH was continually steadied when unable to obtain clear running between HARVEY MUDD and CHEERFUL HEART. Near the 200 Metres, GREAT DRAGON, which was giving ground, was steadied when momentarily crowded for room between ATHLETIC GOLD and TRIUMPH. At the 100 Metres, ATHLETIC GOLD, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, became unbalanced after being bumped by HARVEY MUDD which when giving ground shifted in after having made contact with CHEERFUL HEART. Throughout the race, CHEERFUL HEART raced wide and without cover. Whilst the riding of G Schofield (CHEERFUL HEART) over the concluding stages did not affect his finishing position, the Stewards reminded him to ride all his mounts out at least hands and heels right to the winning post. Mr C H Yip, the trainer of GREAT DRAGON, said in his opinion the poor performance today by the horse could be attributed to the fact that as a result of its last start win the horse was now obliged to race up a class and that he had to use a senior rider as a substitute for Apprentice K T Yeung who had become indisposed which meant the horse did not have the benefit of an apprentice allowance. GREAT DRAGON was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, GREAT DRAGON was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. HARVEY MUDD was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, HARVEY MUDD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had a significant amount of mucus in the trachea. Before being allowed to race again, HARVEY MUDD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SHABU SHABU and KINGSTON GLORY were sent for sampling.
