Racing Incident Report

On jumping, GOODWOOD knuckled. From a gate towards the outside, GOLD SANDFIELD raced in a forward position but wide without cover, making the turn at the 800 Metres hung out and then in the Straight tailed out. The performance of GOLD SANDFIELD was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, GOLD SANDFIELD will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GOLD SANDFIELD was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, GOLD SANDFIELD was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. DESERT STORM was slow to begin. After the 600 Metres, MY CHOICE, which was racing tight inside BOWIN, was steadied away from the heels of STRONG SUN. At the 500 Metres, MY CHOICE was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of GOLD SANDFIELD which was giving ground. In the early part of the Straight, GOODWOOD was held up and unable to improve behind BORN DRAGON which was giving ground and inside STRONG SUN. After the 400 Metres, DESERT STRIKE was steadied and shifted to the inside of SUPER PRINCE to go forward. Near the 50 Metres, SHINING DRAGON, which was giving ground, was brushed by DESERT STRIKE which when under pressure shifted out abruptly. Prior to the winning post, UPBEAT became unbalanced and shifted out. An inquiry into the running and riding of BOWIN was adjourned to a date to be fixed. SUPER PRINCE, GOODWOOD and MY CHOICE were sent for sampling.
