Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, GIFTED RUNNER became fractious, lunged forward and broke open the front gates of its stall. When the gates opened, METRO FLYER stood flat-footed and lost a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, METRO FLYER will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. RISING WIN began awkwardly. Near the 1300 Metres, LUCKY DRAGON was steadied away from the heels of MULTI MILLIONS after being carried in by HARVEST GALA which at this time got its head on the side and shifted ground. After this incident, HARVEST GALA proved difficult to settle, raced close to the heels of TAIJI SPIRIT and near the 800 Metres was checked to avoid the heels of that runner. Near the 1100 Metres, WIN FOR ALL, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of TABBRIS which crossed to the fence in the lead. Over the final 800 Metres and in the Home Straight, VITALITY CHAMP hung out. At the 700 Metres, TAIJI SPIRIT became unbalanced after being carried out by MULTI MILLIONS. Also at the 700 Metres, RISING WIN was steadied away from the heels of DESERT STRIKE. After the 700 Metres, CHAMPION BOY (Apprentice C K Tong) was steadied when attempting to improve inside the heels of LUCKY DRAGON where there was insufficient room. Apprentice Tong was advised to ensure there is sufficient racing room before improving his position. A Marcus (MULTI MILLIONS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 500 Metres he shifted his mount out when not clear of TAIJI SPIRIT, causing that horse to be carried out, lose its rightful running and be checked to avoid the heels of VITALITY CHAMP. A Marcus was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 21 October 2004 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). As there is no mid-week racemeeting in Hong Kong next week, the Stewards acceded to a request from A Marcus that he be permitted to commence his suspension with immediate effect. In addition, A Marcus was fined $15,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. After the 200 Metres, METRO FLYER, which was closing the race off strongly, was steadied and shifted to the inside of TAIJI SPIRIT to continue going forward. In the Straight when giving ground, HARVEST GALA hung in. D Whyte (DESERT STRIKE) explained the horse appears to have lost its early pace and he also noted it has been making a noise with its breathing during track work. He said because of this it was decided to apply a tongue tie to DESERT STRIKE today and also to have the horse ridden more quietly than of recent times in an attempt to ensure it finished the race off. He said the manner in which DESERT STRIKE is racing indicates it will be better suited by distances of further than 1400 Metres when he anticipates it will be ridden no further forward than midfield. WIN FOR ALL and TABBRIS were sent for sampling.
