Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, F Coetzee (HARVEY MUDD) said the horse had coughed during its preliminary. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said after the necessary consultations it was suitable to race. NOBLE HEART began very awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. LUCKY VICTORIES began awkwardly. QUICK NEWS was slow to begin. Prior to straightening, HARVEY MUDD and DOUCAI made contact. After the 400 Metres, SUPER MARKSMAN was shifted to the outside of HARVEY MUDD in an attempt to find clear running. When this occurred, NOBLE HEART shifted quickly to the inside of SUPER MARKSMAN and this caused some inconvenience to KIMBO KID. After this, KIMBO KID was crowded for room inside NOBLE HEART which got its head on the side and shifted in away from SUPER MARKSMAN which shifted to the inside of HARVEY MUDD which shifted out. SUPER MARKSMAN for some distance then was unable to improve between NOBLE HEART and inside HARVEY MUDD. Approaching and passing the 200 Metres, LUCKY VICTORIES, which was beginning to close the race off strongly, was steadied when awkwardly placed between SUPER MARKSMAN and EUPHORIC KID which shifted in after being steadied away from the heels of FREE WAY. Over the final 200 Metres, FREE WAY got its head on the side and hung in and after the 200 Metres shifted ground and was steadied away from the heels of DOUCAI. Over the concluding stages, EUPHORIC KID was awkwardly placed outside LUCKY VICTORIES and inside the heels of DOUCAI. Because of this, EUPHORIC KID was not ridden out to the line as it normally would be. Also over the concluding stages, SUPER MARKSMAN raced tight between NOBLE HEART and HARVEY MUDD and because of this was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. Throughout the race, UPBEAT raced wide and without cover. HARVEY MUDD was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, HARVEY MUDD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. An endoscopic examination showed a minor amount of mucus and blood to be present in the horse's trachea. In the opinion of the Veterinary Officer, this finding was of questionable significance. When questioned, K McEvoy (KIMBO KID) said he had been instructed to ride the horse with cover. He said he anticipated SUPER MARKSMAN would go forward and travel in a prominent position, so after beginning well he allowed SUPER MARKSMAN to work forward and anticipated that horse would cross to the fence near the 1200 Metres. He said when SUPER MARKSMAN remained racing off the fence and allowed HARVEY MUDD to cross him and race on the rail, he was then unable to improve his position as SUPER MARKSMAN had leverage on him. He said when SUPER MARKSMAN crossed to the fence at the 1000 Metres, he had to momentarily steady away from that horse's heels, however, he was not overly concerned with the position he had in the run. He said he remained following SUPER MARKSMAN into the Home Straight and when that horse shifted out after the 400 Metres, he endeavoured to improve along the rail, however, NOBLE HEART quickly raced to his outside which meant he was then held up approaching the 200 Metres behind TURBOJET which was giving ground. He said after the 200 Metres NOBLE HEART continued forward of him which enabled him to obtain clear running and KIMBO KID finished the race off only fairly. K McEvoy was told his explanation would be recorded and where possible he should do his utmost to maintain a favourable position. KINGSTON GLORY and QUICK NEWS were sent for sampling.
