Racing Incident Report

NATURAL MODEL was withdrawn on 23.3.04 on veterinary grounds (left fore tendon injury) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter MR BASKETBALL (G Mossé). Before being permitted to race again, NATURAL MODEL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When the gates opened, CYBER GULCH stood flat-footed and lost a considerable amount of ground. Before being permitted to race again, CYBER GULCH will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. On jumping, CHINA WORLD and LUCKY DICE bumped. FOOD LOVER began awkwardly and got its head up. SPLIT SECONDS was slow to begin. Making the first turn, UNIVERSAL GLORY hung in badly and because of this Apprentice H W Lai, its rider, became unbalanced when straightening the horse. Near the 900 Metres, SPLIT SECONDS became unbalanced and shifted out abruptly when being steadied away from the heels of MAGIC TOUCH which shifted in. At the same time, THE RICH MAN shifted out away from the heels of CHINA WORLD. Near the 800 Metres, MAGIC TOUCH and THE RICH MAN were hampered and carried wider when CHINA WORLD was taken out by FELICITY which shifted out from behind DANEPRINT which at this time became unbalanced. After the 800 Metres, LUCKY DICE (D Whyte) and MR BASKETBALL raced tight as a result of LUCKY DICE being awkwardly placed inside the heels of WEI SHAN. In this incident, the left elbow of G Mossé came into contact with the right arm of D Whyte. G Mossé was told wherever possible he should ensure that no part of his body comes into contact with another horse or rider. Near the 700 Metres, DANEPRINT was checked when crowded for room inside UNIVERSAL GLORY (Apprentice H W Lai) which at that time got its head on the side and shifted in away from MAXIMUM JOY. FELICITY, which was following, was checked in consequence. As the Stewards were satisfied Apprentice Lai had attempted to prevent his mount from shifting in, no action was taken. Making the turn after the 700 Metres, SPLIT SECONDS was inclined to lay out. On straightening, THE RICH MAN was checked when crowded for room between SPLIT SECONDS which shifted out slightly and WEI SHAN which when giving ground shifted in, made contact with THE RICH MAN and then was turned in further. No action was taken. Apprentice P H Lo (DANEPRINT) explained in track work the horse had shown a tendency to drop the bit with horses on its outside. He said he had been instructed to lead tonight. He said after beginning well DANEPRINT travelled forward in the lead, then after entering the Back Straight he steadied the pace, near the 900 Metres when UNIVERSAL GLORY and MAXIMUM JOY improved on his outside, DANEPRINT dropped the bit and was reluctant to hold its position. The Stewards advised Apprentice Lo that particularly with his prior knowledge of the horse he had overdone the steadying of the pace and it would have been in his best interest to ensure DANEPRINT maintained the lead. DANEPRINT was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, DANEPRINT was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. SHOW BRAVELY, LUCKY DICE and MR BASKETBALL were sent for sampling.
