Racing Incident Report

G Mossé and Y Lerner were each fined $2,000 for being late to the Parade Ring. KIWI DASH began awkwardly, got its head up, then blundered. As a consequence, KIWI DASH got well back. SUPER MARKSMAN was slow to begin. PLEASANT JOURNEY was slow to begin, then shifted out and bumped FREE WAY which on jumping bounded in the air. From a gate towards the outside, NAOMERIC TE SPECSO raced in a forward position but wide without cover. Approaching the first turn, KIWI DASH got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of MYTHIC STEED. At the 800 Metres, SUPER MARKSMAN was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SHAXI RICHES. At the 600 Metres, KIWI DASH was hampered and crowded for room when SUPER MARKSMAN (A Marcus) which had improved to be close to the heels of SHAXI RICHES shifted to the outside of that horse. A Marcus was advised to exercise care. After the 600 Metres, SPARKLE was bumped by PLEASANT JOURNEY which had its head on the side and was hanging out. After the 400 Metres, MYTHIC STEED was steadied when disappointed for running between ASIA STAR and SOARING ANGEL which was carried out by SHAXI RICHES which got its head on the side and hung out. After this, MYTHIC STEED shifted out and bumped KIWI DASH, causing both horses to become unbalanced. Approaching and passing the 200 Metres, GOLDEN SPIRIT had some difficulty obtaining clear running between ELVIS and PERFECT SCORE. Near the 50 Metres, G Mossé momentarily dropped his left rein as he changed the whip into his left hand. After the 50 Metres, MYTHIC STEED was steadied away from the heels of SHAXI RICHES which continued to hang out. Because of this, MYTHIC STEED was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. Right on the winning post, SUPER MARKSMAN was bumped by SHAXI RICHES which shifted further while continuing to hang. In the Straight, FREE WAY hung in. When questioned regarding the improved performance of ELVIS, Mr J Size, the trainer of the horse, said in his opinion the horse's condition gave out when it was having its first start this season. He said at its next run last Wednesday ELVIS travelled comfortably during the run, however, when put under pressure failed to respond and gave ground. He said after that race the rider explained to him that the horse let out a big breath on pulling up which may have indicated the horse had not breathed properly during the run. He said today with its light weight ELVIS was able to obtain a comfortable lead where it was able to dictate the pace to suit itself. He said in his opinion the manner in which today's race was run was a benefit to ELVIS. The explanation submitted by Mr Size was accepted. NAOMERIC TE SPECSO was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of NAOMERIC TE SPECSO after the race did not show any significant findings. SUPER MARKSMAN, ELVIS and GOLDEN SPIRIT were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted ASIA STAR was making an abnormal breathing noise. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to be a "roarer".
