Racing Incident Report

CYPRESS HILL began very awkwardly, bounded in the air and lost a considerable amount of ground at the start. PRECISION was slow to begin. SELF FLIT began awkwardly, bumped the inside gate of its stall and lost ground. After the 900 Metres, CYPRESS HILL got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of GIFT which itself was steadied away from the heels of INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS. After the 400 Metres, NATIVE DREAM was steadied when disappointed for running between JOYFUL SPIRIT and FLORAL DYNAMITE. Near the 200 Metres, NATIVE DREAM was again steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of JOYFUL SPIRIT which at this time shifted in. Also near the 200 Metres, HIGH INTELLIGENT hung out. When questioned, G Schofield (JOYFUL SPRIT) said he had followed SATURN into the Straight and in his opinion that horse was travelling comfortably and he thought would carry him forward into the race and clear running. He said near the 300 Metres he became aware HIGH INTELLIGENT was commencing to hang out and he felt SATURN was going to shift out with that horse, so he shifted to the inside of SATURN into an area where he thought there would be clear running. He said however SATURN remained racing close to CLASSIC MASTER on its inside which meant he would not obtain clear running in that position. He said he therefore looked to his outside to ensure he was clear of other runners to shift out, however, at that time NATIVE DREAM had improved on his outside and to avoid causing interference to that runner he was obliged to remain racing behind SATURN. He said after the 100 Metres CLASSIC MASTER shifted away from the rail, he immediately shifted to the inside of that horse into clear running. He said even though the race was almost over at that stage JOYFUL SPIRIT did not quicken. The explanation of G Schofield was reported. SELF FLIT and PRECISION were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SELF FLIT and PRECISION after the race did not show any significant findings. HIGH INTELLIGENT, SAMBUCA and CLASSIC MASTER were sent for sampling.
