Racing Incident Report
When declarations were taken for this race, E Saint-Martin was declared to ride SHABU SHABU and second Standby Declared Starter ORIENTAL. SHABU SHABU is trained by Mr C S Shum while ORIENTAL is trained by Mr C H Yip, the retaining trainer of E Saint-Martin. As such E Saint-Martin had a commitment to ride ORIENTAL should that horse obtain a start. Therefore S Dye was permitted to be substituted as the rider of SHABU SHABU. Mr Yip was fined $2,000 for allowing E Saint-Martin to be doubly declared. MILITARY OPTION was slow to begin. FORTUNE LIFE began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of VICTORY MARBLE which shifted out. CHERISHED was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was steadied away from the heels of FANTASTICO. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, SUPER FANTASY became unbalanced. Near the 1200 Metres, the saddle on FORTUNE LIFE shifted forward. Because of this, Apprentice H W Lai, its rider, was placed at a disadvantage. Near the 1100 Metres, PROGRESSING TIMES was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SIXTY SECONDS. MILITARY OPTION, which was following PROGRESSING TIMES, was also steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse. After the 1100 Metres, SIXTY SECONDS was carried wider by SUPER FANTASY. As a result of this, SIXTY SECONDS travelled three wide and without cover. On straightening, MILITARY OPTION was steadied and shifted to the inside of PROGRESSING TIMES. At the 200 Metres, TIRAMISU was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running inside FANTASTICO (Apprentice C W Wong) which shifted in when not properly clear. Apprentice Wong was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he must stop riding and straighten his mount. For a considerable distance after the 200 Metres, SUPER WONGCHOY was held up and unable to improve between VICTORY MARBLE and SUPER FANTASY. After the 100 Metres, SUPER WONGCHOY was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running between VICTORY MARBLE and SUPER FANTASY which shifted in. Because of this, SUPER WONGCHOY was not properly tested. SHABU SHABU and MILITARY OPTION were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported PROGRESSING TIMES had sustained a laceration to the outside of its right hind cannon. Before being allowed to race again, PROGRESSING TIMES will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
