Racing Incident Report
EXCELLENT BOY was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore foot – puncture wound). Before being allowed to race again, EXCELLENT BOY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After arriving at the Start, SOUND OF SILENCE was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He said the horse was lame in the left hind leg and therefore was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of SOUND OF SILENCE. Before being allowed to race again, SOUND OF SILENCE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. KING OF SPADES was slow to begin. CHERISHED began awkwardly and bounded in the air. On jumping, RIGHT CHOICE was crowded for room between HAPPY ALL AROUND and FUJIAN PRINCE which shifted out. BALL OF FIRE, which had been intended to be ridden in a forward position, failed to muster speed in the early stages despite being ridden along. Near the 1300 Metres, FRIENDSHIP became unbalanced when being steadied to avoid the heels of HAPPY ALL AROUND which shifted in when barely clear. Approaching the 1200 Metres, FUJIAN PRINCE, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of NICKU NICKU. At the 1100 Metres, FRIENDSHIP got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of HAPPY ALL AROUND. After the 600 Metres, BALL OF FIRE became unbalanced and shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of FUJIAN PRINCE. Prior to straightening, RIGHT CHOICE was steadied when close to the heels of FRIENDSHIP, then on straightening shifted out and bumped BALL OF FIRE. On straightening, KING OF SPADES became unbalanced and shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of ATHLETIC GOLD which was carried out by FUJIAN PRINCE which made the turn awkwardly and shifted ground. After the 200 Metres, BALL OF FIRE was momentarily steadied away from the heels of RIGHT CHOICE which shifted out when barely clear. After the 100 Metres, CHERISHED was shifted out away from the heels of NICKU NICKU which shifted in. Throughout the race, ATHLETIC GOLD raced wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. Y T Cheng (NICKU NICKU) explained he had intended to ride the horse in midfield, however, after beginning well having in mind the horse's light weight he elected to allow it to continue forward and race in a more forward position. FRIENDSHIP, NICKU NICKU and WINWIN COMBO were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported NICKU NICKU had lost its left hind plate.
