Racing Incident Report
TOP HONOR, which was kicked by another horse behind the barriers, was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said it was suitable to race. On jumping, COURAGEOUSHEART and SUMMERVILLE POWER bumped. VICTORY TREASURE began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped GREENESSY. LUCKY KING and TOP HONOR were slow to begin. COURAGEOUSHEART hung out making the Home Turn. At the 300 Metres, MEATH was steadied away from the heels of VITALITY CHAMP. For a considerable distance after the 200 Metres, TOP HONOR, which had been closing the race off strongly, was steadied when unable to continue improving between DASH AHEAD and VICTORY TREASURE which when giving ground commenced to shift out. Because of this, TOP HONOR was not properly tested. Throughout the race, COURAGEOUSHEART raced wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. When questioned, W M Lai (VITALITY CHAMP) said near the 600 Metres he commenced to ride his mount along in an endeavour to hold his position behind SUMMERVILLE POWER and outside AMPLE GAINS. He said however VITALITY CHAMP did not respond, gave ground and was then carried wider by MASTERY which improved on his inside. He said when MASTERY continued to improve on his inside, that horse made contact with VITALITY CHAMP, causing VITALITY CHAMP to shift wider on the track. He said after this VITALITY CHAMP made the turn awkwardly and hung out which permitted MASTERY to continue through on his inside. He said in the Straight VITALITY CHAMP did not respond to his riding and was most disappointing. Mr J Size, trainer of VITALITY CHAMP, was unable to offer an explanation for the performance of the horse. He said he had ridden the horse in two pieces of work leading into today's race and he believed that this work was good and as such thought the horse would figure prominently today. VITALITY CHAMP was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of VITALITY CHAMP after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of VITALITY CHAMP was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, VITALITY CHAMP will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. COURAGEOUSHEART was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of COURAGEOUSHEART after the race did not show any significant findings. MASTERY and AMPLE GAINS were sent for sampling.
