Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, the tongue tie fitted to WINNING POWER was replaced. DELIGHTFUL WIN bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. BEST LUCK began awkwardly. At the 1200 Metres, VIKING TOR was crowded for room between FASHION JEWELLERY and KING OF FISH which got its head on the side and shifted in away from SHARKI. After this, VIKING TOR proved difficult to settle for a considerable distance. After the 1200 Metres, ENGINEERING WONDER was steadied when close to the heels of RUM SHOT. At the 600 Metres, ENGINEERING WONDER was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of HELLO PRETTY. Making the Home Turn, HELLO PRETTY hung out. Because of this, RUM SHOT was carried wider. Prior to straightening, DELIGHTFUL WIN was steadied and shifted to the inside of BEST LUCK to obtain clear running. In the early part of the Straight, VIKING TOR was held up and unable to improve and near the 350 Metres was shifted to the outside of KING OF FISH in an endeavour to obtain clear running, however, was disappointed for this run between that horse and HELLO PRETTY. In this incident, HELLO PRETTY was bumped on the hindquarters by VIKING TOR. From shortly after the 400 Metres until the 200 Metres, FASHION JEWELLERY was held up and unable to improve between JOLLY GOOD FORTUNE and SHARKI. At the 300 Metres, NOBLE SILENCE, which was beginning to close the race off, was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of ENGINEERING WONDER which at this time after having difficulty obtaining clear running was shifted towards the outside of RUM SHOT. At the 250 Metres, DELIGHTFUL WIN, which was beginning to close the race off, was steadied when unable to continue improving between HONOUR SUPREME and BEST LUCK. After the 200 Metres, BEST LUCK was bumped by ENGINEERING WONDER, then over the concluding stages had difficulty obtaining clear running. In the Straight, SANBENITO hung in and proved difficult to ride. Throughout the race, KING OF FISH and RUM SHOT raced wide and without cover. A Delpech (WINNING POWER) said the intention had been to ride the horse behind the leaders if possible as it was at its last start when successful. He said today despite being ridden along in the early stages, WINNING POWER failed to muster speed and as he was going to be left racing wide making the first turn, he elected to steady his mount and obtain a position with cover behind RUM SHOT near the 800 Metres. He said after this WINNING POWER commenced to travel better, however, in the Straight did not respond to his riding. WINNING POWER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, WINNING POWER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, WINNING POWER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HELLO PRETTY and SHARKI were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported FASHION JEWELLERY had lost the left front plate.
