Racing Incident Report

ENGINEERING WONDER and BRAVE KNIGHT were slow to begin. Near the 1100 Metres, HELENE ELEGANCE and THE WORLD OF LOVE were crowded for room inside FLYING SPRINTER which momentarily shifted in. Shortly after this, WHATABOB was checked and GALLANT KNIGHT steadied when crowded for room between DOUBLE DIP which was shifting in and FLYING SPRINTER which was shifting out to relieve crowding to its inside. AMAZING, which was following WHATABOB, was hampered in consequence. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, WHATABOB hung out. At the 500 Metres, AMO got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of ENGINEERING WONDER. For some distance after the 200 Metres, ENGINEERING WONDER was awkwardly placed and unable to improve inside the heels of WHATABOB. Near the 150 Metres, ENGINEERING WONDER and AMO were steadied when crowded for room between WHATABOB and DOUBLE DIP which shifted out when giving ground. Throughout the race, HIGHLILLI travelled wide and without cover. H K Yim (FLYING SPRINTER), 5th placegetter, was reminded where circumstances permit he should ride all mounts out at least hands and heels right to the winning post. When questioned, S Dye (FAIR WIN) said he intended to ride the horse in 4th or 5th position. He said from a gate near the outside FAIR WIN began only fairly and immediately shifted out. He said he rode along for a few strides, however, FAIR WIN when shifting ground did not muster speed and bumped AMO. He said shortly after the start a bunch of runners which had drawn to his inside had gone forward, so he immediately started to shift across closer to the rail. He said near the 1000 Metres he elected to further steady FAIR WIN to shift across to race on the rail to avoid racing three wide outside ENGINEERING WONDER, however, as a consequence he was at the rear. He said FAIR WIN travelled comfortably, however, became unbalanced near the 500 Metres and brushed the rail. He said after this he commenced to ride FAIR WIN along, the horse made ground rounding the Home Turn, however, as he had a number of runners on his outside, he elected to remain racing on the rail. He said for a short distance after straightening there was a run available on the inside of BRAVE KNIGHT, however, that horse then commenced to shift back towards the rail, so he steadied and shifted out in an endeavour to find clear running. He said he was not able to do so and when DOUBLE DIP and GALLANT KNIGHT commenced to give ground in front of him, he steadied and shifted back in to follow BRAVE KNIGHT through. He said once in the clear FAIR WIN finished the race off strongly. The explanation submitted by S Dye was reported. WHATABOB, THE WORLD OF LOVE and BRAVE KNIGHT were sent for sampling.
