Racing Incident Report

From the outside gate, SOPRANO was immediately shifted across behind runners. NILOMETER was slow to muster speed and then from its wide gate raced wide and without cover throughout. L Innes (KINGSTON WINNER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that shortly after the start he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of EXPECTATIONS, causing that horse to be carried in and in turn caused crowding on its inside to WYNDAM EASY which as a result lost its rightful running and was checked. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for L Innes' licence to ride in races be suspended for a period to expire on Sunday 22 May 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Saturday 14 May 2005. In addition, L Innes was fined $10,000. Near the winning post on the first occasion, EXPECTATIONS was steadied when crowded for room between RED POWER and KINGSTON WINNER which shifted in when not properly clear. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, WYNDAM EASY bumped the running rail. Near the 1300 Metres, SOPRANO was checked to avoid the heels of WYNDAM EASY which was steadied to avoid the heels of FIVE GRAINS which when racing tight inside EXPECTATIONS shifted in slightly as EXPECTATIONS itself was racing tight inside NILOMETER. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Making the turn at the 1000 Meters, WYNDAM EASY, which was proving difficult to settle, hung in and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FIVE GRAINS. After this, WYNDAM EASY was shifted out and allowed to improve wide on the track. Near the 250 Metres, FIVE GRAINS was shifted to the outside of RED POWER after initially being disappointed for running inside that horse. FIVE GRAINS then had difficulty obtaining clear running near the 50 Metres. S Dye (RED POWER) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of FIFTY FIFTY which as a result lost its rightful running and was checked. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for S Dye's licence to ride in races be suspended for a period to expire on Sunday 22 May 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Saturday 14 May 2005. In addition, S Dye was fined $80,000 in lieu of an additional period of suspension incorporating a further two Hong Kong racedays. FIVE GRAINS, RED POWER and NILOMETER were sent for sampling.
