Racing Incident Report

SHANGHAI KING and DOUBLE PLEASURE were slow to begin. At the 1600 Metres, GREENESSY, which commenced to race keenly, was shifted out away from the heels of MR COOL. Shortly after this, GREENESSY, which continued to race keenly, was steadied when crowded for room between MR COOL and DOUBLE PLEASURE. GALLANT FALCON, which was following GREENESSY, was hampered in consequence. For some distance after this, GREENESSY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of DOUBLE PLEASURE. In the early stages, SEASONS KNACK proved difficult to settle. Also in the early stages, FUJI SUNRISE from the outside gate proved difficult to settle and raced wide and without cover. After the 1200 Metres, LUCKY KING was crowded for room inside GREEN IN BLUE which got its head up and shifted in when being steadied away from the heels of SHANGHAI KING which at this time shifted to a position behind GREENESSY. Prior to straightening, GREENESSY became unbalanced, shifted in and bumped MR COOL. At the 400 Metres, SUNNY RIVIERA was steadied and shifted to the inside of LUCKY KING to obtain clear running. After the 200 Metres, SUNNY RIVIERA, which was closing the race off strongly when being ridden hands and heels along the rail, was checked to avoid the heels of MR COOL which was giving ground in front of it. After the 100 Metres, GALLANT FALCON was carried wider by GREENESSY which when being ridden out got its head on the side and shifted ground. Just prior to the winning post, the whip of A Delpech (LUCKY DICE) was knocked from his hand by the whip of L Innes (MASTERY). Throughout the race, LUCKY DICE raced in a forward position but three wide and without cover. D Whyte (DOUBLE PLEASURE) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said DOUBLE PLEASURE raced in a forward position in a slowly run race which in his opinion was favourable. He said DOUBLE PLEASURE travelled comfortably, however, when placed under pressure after straightening failed to respond to his riding. He did say while DOUBLE PLEASURE did not feel sore it did appear reluctant to fully stretch out in the Straight. DOUBLE PLEASURE was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of DOUBLE PLEASURE after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of DOUBLE PLEASURE was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, DOUBLE PLEASURE will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GREENESSY and COURAGEOUSHEART were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 17 May 2005)
DOUBLE PLEASURE, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. DOUBLE PLEASURE was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer D E Ferraris last Sunday. He said at this time he noted the horse to have a very painful back. As previously advised, DOUBLE PLEASURE will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
