Racing Incident Report
KROVANH was slow to begin. When the gates opened, DASHING THUNDER bounded in the air, on landing became unbalanced, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of ROYAL DECREE. As a consequence, DASHING THUNDER lost ground and ROYAL DECREE became unbalanced. Shortly after this, ROYAL DECREE was steadied when crowded for room between CALIFORNIA PRINCE and DILIGENT which shifted in. As a consequence, ROYAL DECREE got well back. In the early stages, CALIFORNIA PRINCE proved very difficult to settle and making the turn at the 800 Metres shifted in and bumped the running rail. After this, CALIFORNIA PRINCE shifted out and made contact with REGENCY HORSE. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, FLYING SPRINTER, which was proving difficult to settle after being crossed by SHADOW KNIGHT, was bumped by ISLAND SPIRIT. For some distance after this, FLYING SPRINTER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SHADOW KNIGHT. At the 500 Metres, DILIGENT became unbalanced and blundered when close to the heels of ISLAND SPIRIT. At the 400 Metres, CALIFORNIA PRINCE became unbalanced, shifted in and bumped the running rail. For some distance after the 400 Metres, DILIGENT was held up and unable to improve between GREAT ACHIEVEMENT and BRILLIANT FLASH. From the 400 Metres until after the 200 Metres, FLYING SPRINTER was held up and unable to improve when racing behind CALIFORNIA PRINCE which was giving ground and initially tight inside SHADOW KNIGHT and consequently inside CIRCUIT KINGDOM which followed SHADOW KNIGHT forward. Because of this, FLYING SPRINTER was carried back through the field and lost a significant amount of ground. Near the 300 Metres, CIRCUIT KINGDOM was held up and unable to improve between FLYING SPRINTER and SHADOW KNIGHT. Also near the 300 Metres, DASHING THUNDER was steadied and unable to improve when awkwardly placed close to the heels of ISLAND SPIRIT. After this, DASHING THUNDER was shifted in, however, was again steadied when held up for running until after the 200 Metres between ISLAND SPIRIT and SHADOW KNIGHT. When questioned regarding the poor performance of GREAT ACHIEVEMENT, G Mossé, the horse's rider, said near the 800 Metres he became concerned with the horse's action. He said at this time it was racing wide and without cover, however, he felt the horse was sore in its left front leg. He said because of this when GREAT ACHIEVEMENT failed to respond to his riding in the early part of the Straight he did not persevere riding the horse out to the end of the race. GREAT ACHIEVEMENT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GREAT ACHIEVEMENT after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of GREAT ACHIEVEMENT was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GREAT ACHIEVEMENT will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. REGENCY HORSE and CIRCUIT KINGDOM were sent for sampling.
