Racing Incident Report

At declaration time, A Delpech was declared as the rider of both SPARKLING STAR and LUCKY WINNER. It was established A Delpech had a firm commitment to ride LUCKY WINNER. As such, permission was given for R Fradd to be substituted as the rider of SPARKLING STAR. Mr P O'Sullivan, trainer of SPARKLING STAR, was fined $2,000 for this error. DASHING WINNER began awkwardly, got its head up and lost ground. Shortly after the start, SPARKLING STAR was steadied when crowded for room between SOUNDS BEST and FORTUNE SMILES, both of which shifted ground. Approaching the 600 Metres, FORTUNE SMILES blundered. Passing the 300 Metres, DASHING WINNER was shifted out around the heels of SILVER SUN when disappointed for running between that horse and FLYING SPRINTER which shifted out. R Fradd (SPARKLING STAR) explained after being steadied shortly after the start the horse was then reluctant to stride out despite being ridden along and soon became detached. He said after this he shifted SPARKLING STAR out away from the fence in an attempt to have the horse improve its position, however, it failed to do so. S Dye (LUCKY MARAUDING) reported shortly after straightening his mount became unbalanced behind and would not stride out. He said because of this he did not ride LUCKY MARAUDING out as he normally would. LUCKY MARAUDING was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY MARAUDING after the race did not show any significant findings. LUCKY DANSKE and SOUNDS BEST were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 27 June 2005)
LUCKY MARAUDING, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. LUCKY MARAUDING was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer K W Lui this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have a strain of the left front suspensory ligament and an injury to the left eye. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY MARAUDING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
