Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, MAVERICK sat back and was slow to begin. On jumping, SUPER PEARL was crowded for room between GOLD DIGGER and WING FOOT which got its head on the side and shifted in. At the start, NEW TAMAR and LUCKY YEARS bumped. SMARTY was a little slow to begin. At the 1000 Metres, SUPER PEARL got its head up and lost ground when being steadied away from the heels of NEW TAMAR (S Dye) which shifted in when not properly clear. S Dye was reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. ON SHAN EXPRESS and LUCKY YEARS, which were racing to the inside of SUPER PEARL, were crowded in this incident and MAVERICK became unbalanced and shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of ON SHAN EXPRESS. At the 500 Metres, SUPER PEARL was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of NEW TAMAR which commenced to give ground. G Mossé (MAVERICK) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 300 Metres he shifted his mount out when not clear of NEW TAMAR, causing that horse to be crowded for room and carried outwards onto SUPER PEARL which as a result was crowded for room, made contact with the hindquarters of MAXIMUM JOY, lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled and was checked. In this incident, MAXIMUM JOY became unbalanced behind. G Mossé was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 14 November 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The suspension is to take immediate effect. In addition, G Mossé was fined $40,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating two further racedays. Throughout the race, MAXIMUM JOY raced wide and without cover. NEW TAMAR was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of NEW TAMAR after the race did not show any significant findings. MAVERICK, GOLD DIGGER and WING FOOT were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported SUPER PEARL had bled from both nostrils.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 7 November 2005)
NEW TAMAR, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. NEW TAMAR was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer C S Shum yesterday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the right front fetlock. Before being allowed to race again, NEW TAMAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
