Racing Incident Report

CLASSIC HORSE was withdrawn on 17.11.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (fever) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter MIRACLE DRAGON (S Dye). Before being allowed to race again, CLASSIC HORSE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SPOKESMAN was a little slow to begin and then shortly afterwards lost further ground when bumped by SOLDIER ON. GLOBE RIVER began awkwardly, bumped the inside gate of its stall and shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room between MIRACLE DRAGON which was carried out by EAST OCEAN DRAGON and PO ON GEM which began awkwardly, got its head up and shifted in. After this incident, PO ON GEM was taken across behind runners. At the 1100 Metres, FLASH HARRY, which had its head on the side, hung in, bumped STAR PRODIGY and then became unbalanced. In the early stages, GOOD TO GREAT proved difficult to settle and on a number of occasions got its head up when racing close to the heels of STAR PRODIGY. D Dunn (GOODWOOD) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 400 Metres he shifted his mount towards the outside of LORD CAIRNS when not clear of TOP BRASS, as a result of which GOODWOOD bumped TOP BRASS, causing that horse to shift out, strike the heels of EAST OCEAN DRAGON, blunder and almost fall. In the circumstances of this case, it was considered the appropriate penalty was for the licence of D Dunn to be suspended until Thursday 1 December 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension is with immediate effect. In addition, D Dunn was fined $20,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. For some distance after the 400 Metres, GLOBE RIVER had some difficulty obtaining clear running, then near the 300 Metres was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PO ON GEM. After the 400 Metres, STAR PRODIGY was held up and unable to improve when racing behind GOODWOOD and TOP BRASS. Passing the 200 Metres, TOP BRASS was steadied when held up behind FLASH HARRY. After this, TOP BRASS was again steadied and shifted to the outside of FLASH HARRY into clear running. For some distance approaching and passing the 200 Metres, SPOKESMAN had difficulty obtaining clear running between SOLDIER ON and PO ON GEM which was laying in. At the 100 Metres, SPOKESMAN shifted out and made contact with PO ON GEM. Throughout the race, LUCKY CORDELIA from the outside barrier travelled wide and without cover in a forward position. S Dye (MIRACLE DRAGON) said in the early part of the Straight he went forward on his mount, it responded to his riding, however, passing the 200 Metres he was awkwardly placed inside SOLDIER ON which had improved on his outside and outside LUCKY CORDELIA which got its head up and shifted out. He said because of this he did not pull the whip on MIRACLE DRAGON until the concluding stages. He said regardless of this in his opinion MIRACLE DRAGON was doing its best. PO ON GEM, SOLDIER ON and SPOKESMAN were sent for sampling.
