Racing Incident Report

ROYAL DECREE was withdrawn on 11.3.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter GROOM RAIDER (C Brown). Before being allowed to race again, ROYAL DECREE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When being loaded, HAPPY GO LAGO appeared abnormal in its action. HAPPY GO LAGO was removed from its stall and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. TOY QUEST was slow to begin and then shortly afterwards dipped. SPEEDING MOLLY got its head up on jumping and lost ground. At the 1000 Metres, SHERIFF BAMBOO and KINGSTON MARBLE raced tight due to KINGSTON MARBLE getting its head on the side and shifting in away from the heels of GROOM RAIDER. At the 800 Metres, SPEEDING MOLLY was tightened for room between FLAME POWER and TOY QUEST. In the middle stages and particularly making the turns, SHERIFF BAMBOO hung out. At the 600 Metres, FLAME POWER was steadied away from the heels of KINGSTON MARBLE which at this time was steadied in an attempt to shift back to a position with cover behind SHERIFF BAMBOO. On straightening, DILIGENT was steadied and shifted to the outside of SPEEDING MOLLY. At the 350 Metres, FLAME POWER, which was commencing to give ground, was steadied when crowded for room between DILIGENT and STRONG GAIN. After the 300 Metres, TOY QUEST was momentarily steadied when improving into a narrow run between HAPPY GO LAGO and GRAND COMMANDS which was giving ground. Then over the final 200 Metres, TOY QUEST hung in. When questioned, N Ryan (STRONG GAIN) said the horse which had drawn the outside barrier did not begin cleanly and as a consequence travelled towards the rear. He said after the 800 Metres STRONG GAIN was travelling comfortably when following FLAME POWER and then after the 600 Metres was able to improve into a position between FLAME POWER and HANDBAG PREMIER which enabled him to follow KINGSTON MARBLE which he believed would carry him forward into the race. He said he continued racing in that position into the Home Straight, however, KINGSTON MARBLE did not carry him forward as anticipated and as a consequence of him being inside the heels of HANDBAG PREMIER he was not able to shift to the outside to obtain clear running. He said he continued to be held up and unable to improve until after the 300 Metres when a run presented itself on the inside of KINGSTON MARBLE and outside SHERIFF BAMBOO. He said he was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of SHERIFF BAMBOO, however, over the final 200 Metres STRONG GAIN closed the race off strongly when in clear running. When questioned regarding the poor performance of KINGSTON MARBLE, D Whyte said the horse did not show its customary early speed and as such he would have been required to make too much use of the horse to go forward and cross SHERIFF BAMBOO in the early stages to obtain a position one off the fence. He said SHERIFF BAMBOO which was hanging held him wide making the first turn, he therefore elected to come back and follow that horse. He said in the Straight KINGSTON MARBLE did not respond to his riding and he was unable to offer any explanation for the performance of the horse. KINGSTON MARBLE was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of KINGSTON MARBLE after the race did not show any significant findings. GROOM RAIDER and CALIFORNIA PRINCE were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 13 March 2006)
The Veterinary Surgeon reported that HAPPY GO LAGO was this morning found to be mildly lame in the left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY GO LAGO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
