Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, the tongue tie fitted to GIANFANTI was replaced. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer at the request of the jockey. He said in his opinion GIANFANTI was suitable to race. ONE STEP AHEAD, which was standing with its head down, was slow to begin. CRYSTAL was slow to begin. SAND DANCE began awkwardly. On jumping, CLASSA FOR EVER shifted out abruptly. Also on jumping, PROFIT HILL was taken across behind runners. SUPREMACY, which was not standing well, began awkwardly. Near the 800 Metres, CLASSA FOR EVER, which was hard ridden to make ground, was awkwardly placed inside SAND DANCE. At the 500 Metres, CRYSTAL was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of TAIJI SPIRIT. On several occasions after the 200 Metres, SUPER PRINCE and SUPREMACY bumped. Throughout the race, MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, O Doleuze (KIMBERLEY MINES) said he had been instructed because of the manner in which tonight's track was racing he should endeavour to go forward. He said in accordance with those instructions he rode KIMBERLEY MINES along in the early stages, however, in his opinion the horse was not comfortable in the track conditions and failed to finish the race off. Mr T W Leung, trainer of KIMBERLEY MINES, confirmed the riding instructions issued to O Doleuze and said these were consistent with the instructions issued to M W Leung who rode the horse at its most recent start, however, on that occasion KIMBERLEY MINES was slow to begin and consequently travelled further back than was intended. Mr Leung said he believed tonight's track clearly showed it better suited the horses travelling in a forward position and he therefore believed it was appropriate to have the horse ridden accordingly. He said when racing over the 1000 Metres, he believed KIMBERLEY MINES is now better suited when being ridden forward, however, when racing over distances of longer than 1000 Metres, the horse needs to be ridden with cover to enable it to run the distance out. He said he did not advise the Stewards that KIMBERLEY MINES would be ridden forward tonight as these instructions were consistent with those instructions issued for the horse's last start. M W Leung confirmed the riding instructions issued to him for KIMBERLEY MINES at its last start. Mr Leung was told his explanation would be recorded. KIMBERLEY MINES was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, KIMBERLEY MINES was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said there were no significant findings except the horse had lost its left front plate. CLASSA FOR EVER and SAND DANCE were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported CLASSA FOR EVER was lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, CLASSA FOR EVER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
