Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, HAPPY KID, which had kicked the rail on leaving the Parade Ring, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. CONQUEROR was a little slow to begin, then shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room between FRAMES DEPOT which shifted in and NAPA which on jumping shifted out, then was carried wider by GLOBE RIVER which shifted out. In this incident, NAPA was also steadied. CARRY GOOD NEWS, which was standing badly, began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall, causing B Prebble, its rider, to become unbalanced. As a consequence, CARRY GOOD NEWS lost ground. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, AMERICAN VICTORY got its head up and hung out. Near the 700 Metres, DOUBLE FANTASY bounded in the air. Prior to straightening, CARRY GOOD NEWS became unbalanced when improving between AMERICAN VICTORY and IRISH GEM which at this time was giving ground. Near the 200 Metres, CHECK MATE, which was closing the race off strongly, was steadied when having difficulty obtaining clear running between GLOBAL LEADER and UNIVERSAL PIONEER which was giving ground. At this time, CHECK MATE shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of GLOBAL LEADER. Just prior to the winning post, CHECK MATE shifted out away from CENTURY SUPER STAR which was carried wider by CONQUEROR. THUNDER MAN was also hampered in this incident. A Delpech (GLOBE RIVER) explained his mount began well, however, because he had been instructed to ride it from behind as normal, he took it back through the field to obtain a position with cover. He said he was following THUNDER MAN and AMERICAN VICTORY and near the 1000 Metres those horses bumped due to AMERICAN VICTORY hanging out. He said after this AMERICAN VICTORY and THUNDER MAN continued to race in a rearward position and he continued to follow. B Prebble (CARRY GOOD NEWS) explained his mount travelled greenly throughout. He said in the early part of the Straight CARRY GOOD NEWS hung in and he rode along hands and heels trying to ensure it was properly balanced. He said CARRY GOOD NEWS continued to make ground in the run to the line, however, over the concluding stages its run ended short of the line. H K Yim (CONQUEROR) explained inside the final 100 Metres when riding his mount out it commenced to drift out slightly. He said at the same time HAPPY KID commenced to drift in. He said as CONQUEROR was closing the race off strongly, he elected to steady and come to the outside of HAPPY KID. H K Yim was told in similar circumstances he would be expected to react sooner than he did on this occasion to maintain uninterrupted running. GLOBAL LEADER and IRISH GEM were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GLOBAL LEADER after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, IRISH GEM was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had bled from both nostrils. HAPPY KID and CONQUEROR were sent for sampling. After the race, UNIVERSAL PIONEER was noted to be making an abnormal breathing noise and to be distressed. Before being allowed to race again, UNIVERSAL PIONEER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, it was reported NAPA had lost its right front plate.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 3 July 2006)
GLOBAL LEADER, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. GLOBAL LEADER was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A Lee this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, GLOBAL LEADER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
