Racing Incident Report
ALIPES began awkwardly and lost ground. Shortly after the start, BALL OF FIRE was crowded for room between MASTER ABLE and BRAVE COMMANDER which got its head on the side and shifted in after being bumped by PAY-DAY at the start. Near the 1000 Metres, BALL OF FIRE was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of BRAVERY LUCK. After the 1000 Metres, BRAVERY LUCK, which had been ridden along, was checked to avoid the heels of DANEPRINT. In the middle stages, despite being pressured, MIRACLE DRAGON failed to maintain its position and lost ground. Also in the middle stages, MASTER ABLE, which had been proving difficult to settle, was left racing wide and without cover. Near the 600 Metres, BRAVERY LUCK became unbalanced when bumped by BALL OF FIRE which had been ridden along to maintain its position. Shortly after this, BALL OF FIRE itself got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of DANZIGMOUNTAIN. After the 50 Metres, SIMPLY THE BEST, which was giving ground, was steadied away from the heels of GLOBE RIVER which was carried in by BALL OF FIRE which in turn was carried in by DANEPRINT. No action was taken. Throughout the race, FRIENDS FOREVER travelled wide and without cover. A Delpech (PAY-DAY) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said the intention had been to obtain a position behind the leaders, however, the manner in which the race was run left him leading. He said despite racing in this position he was not required to make use of the horse and in his opinion was able to dictate the race to suit himself. He said in the Straight PAY-DAY failed to respond to his riding and was most disappointing despite being strongly fancied following good track work in the lead up to the race. MASTER ABLE and PAY-DAY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MASTER ABLE and PAY-DAY after the race did not show any significant findings. BALL OF FIRE, BRAVE COMMANDER and FRIENDS FOREVER were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 11 September 2006)
PAY-DAY, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. PAY-DAY was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D E Ferraris this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have an abscess in the right corner of the mouth. Before being allowed to race again, PAY-DAY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
