Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, STRAIGHT VICTORY became fractious and momentarily had its right hind leg on the platform inside the barrier. The horse was removed from the stalls and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. BIG KAHUNA was slow to begin and in the early stages proved difficult to settle. SOUTH BREEZE was a little slow to begin, then lost further ground when crowded for room between AS YOU WISH and STRAIGHT VICTORY, both of which shifted ground. At the 1200 Metres, AS YOU WISH got its head up and raced ungenerously when momentarily tightened for room inside FEEL-SO-GOOD. Also at the 1200 Metres, CHECK MATE was steadied away from the heels of CHOSEN ONE. Near the 1100 Metres, CHECK MATE was crowded for room between FEEL-SO-GOOD and CHOSEN ONE which was carried in slightly by SMART FELLOW. After the 400 Metres, SMART FELLOW was shifted to the outside of SALUT BEAUTE into clear running. Throughout the race, from an outside barrier, FLYING KENNY travelled wide and without cover and in the early stages proved difficult to settle. D Whyte (DR POSSI) was unable to offer an explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said DR POSSI travelled comfortably in a forward position, however, in the Straight after obtaining clear running failed to finish the race off. DR POSSI and CHECK MATE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DR POSSI after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, CHECK MATE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was severely lame in the left front fetlock. Before being allowed to race again, CHECK MATE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. THUNDER FLASH, SALUT BEAUTE and SMART FELLOW were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported LIBERAL'S RIDE had bled from both nostrils and had lost its right front plate.
