Racing Incident Report
CENTENNIAL SMILE and COME HO CHOI were slow to begin. LORD CAIRNS began awkwardly and lost ground, then in the early stages proved very difficult to settle. After the 1500 Metres, COME HO CHOI, which was racing tight inside LIVERBIRD, got its head on the side, shifted in and was checked away from the heels of KING ACRYLIC. After the 1400 Metres, LIVERBIRD, which had been ridden to go forward, proved difficult to settle and got its head up. Apprentice K T Yeung (KING ACRYLIC) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 800 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of PURE ALPHA, causing that horse to be checked and lose its rightful running. The following horses which were following were hampered: LORD CAIRNS was severely checked; COME HO CHOI and VITAL PATROL were checked; HARRY HARRY was carried wider; THAT'S WIN and AWESOME DRAGON were steadied. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for Apprentice Yeung's licence to ride in races be suspended for a period to expire on Monday 15 January 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (4 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension is to take immediate effect. Making the Home Turn, EVERGREEN and COME HO CHOI raced tight between LORD CAIRNS and PURE ALPHA which was giving ground due mainly to COME HO CHOI shifting out away from the heels of PURE ALPHA. At the 300 Metres, COME HO CHOI was steadied and shifted to the outside of KING ACRYLIC to continue going forward, then after the 200 Metres again had difficulty obtaining clear running between KING ACRYLIC and LIVERBIRD. At the 50 Metres, KING ACRYLIC and LIVERBIRD brushed. Throughout the race, HARRY HARRY travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. When questioned regarding the improved performance of KING ACRYLIC, Mr A Lee, trainer of the horse, which was having its 4th race start today, said KING ACRYLIC had shown natural progression in its races and track work. He said when KING ACRYLIC finished last over the same course and distance at its most recent start on 16 December 2006, the horse was beaten by 7½ lengths after travelling wide and without cover throughout. He said today from a more favourable draw KING ACRYLIC was able to obtain a better run. PURE ALPHA was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, PURE ALPHA was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat and had bled from both nostrils. Before being allowed to race again, PURE ALPHA will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HARRY HARRY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of HARRY HARRY after the race did not show any significant findings. KING ACRYLIC and NOBLE ZOOM were sent for sampling.
