Racing Incident Report
KINGSTON GLORY bounded in the air at the start and shortly afterwards lost further ground as a result of being steadied when crowded for room between RIGHT FRAAR which shifted in and BRAINIEST which shifted out after beginning awkwardly, shifting in and bumping MAGNIFICENT HORSE. On jumping, GIFTED RUNNER shifted out and bumped MAGNIFICENT HORSE. AMBITIOUS LEADER was slow to begin. At the 700 Metres, BRAINIEST was steadied away from the heels of AMBITIOUS LEADER. At the 500 Metres, BRAINIEST was again steadied away from the heels of AMBITIOUS LEADER which itself at this time was steadied away from the heels of SUPER MARKSMAN. In the early part of the Straight, RIGHT FRAAR was shifted wider to find clear running, then over the final 200 Metres hung in and proved difficult to ride. For a considerable distance after the 400 Metres, WISDOM EXPRESS was held up and unable to improve and was then steadied and shifted to the inside of GIFTED RUNNER. For some distance after the 400 Metres, AMBITIOUS LEADER was held up and unable to improve behind SUPER MARKSMAN. At the 350 Metres, BRAINIEST, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied and shifted to the inside of AMBITIOUS LEADER. After the 200 Metres, AMBITIOUS LEADER had some difficulty obtaining clear running between SUPER and FAT DRAGON. Also after the 200 Metres, SUPER MARKSMAN momentarily had difficulty obtaining clear running between WING FOOT and SUPER. After the 100 Metres, SUPER, which was commencing to give ground, was steadied when crowded for room between SUPER MARKSMAN and AMBITIOUS LEADER (O Doleuze) which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied O Doleuze stopped riding and endeavoured to straighten his mount, he was advised to exercise care. In the run to the winning post, MAGNIFICENT HORSE shifted wider. D Whyte (GIFTED RUNNER) said recently the horse had loaded into the stalls well, however, today was reluctant to enter the barriers. He said GIFTED RUNNER travelled three wide and without cover for the majority of the race, then shortly after straightening when placed under pressure gave ground. He said in his opinion GIFTED RUNNER appeared somewhat abnormal in its action. GIFTED RUNNER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, GIFTED RUNNER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being permitted to race again, GIFTED RUNNER will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FAT DRAGON, MAGNIFICENT HORSE and AMBITIOUS LEADER were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported SMARTY had lost its left hind plate. Also after the race, FAT DRAGON was examined by the Veterinary Officer at the request of Mr D J Hall, the horse's trainer. He said an endoscopic examination showed FAT DRAGON to have a substantial amount of blood in the trachea. Before being allowed to race again, FAT DRAGON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
