Racing Incident Report

Whilst in the Parade Ring, it was noted RACING SPIRIT had shifted its right hind plate. This plate was reset and the horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. GIDDY KIPPER began awkwardly, then shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room between RACING SPIRIT and UNIVERSAL PIONEER which shifted in abruptly. From a wide barrier, FIRST KNIGHT knuckled on jumping, then was immediately taken back across behind runners. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, FLASH HARRY (C Brown), which was proving difficult to settle, endeavoured to shift out from behind KING PALM which at this time was being steadied to allow UNIVERSAL PIONEER to cross. When FLASH HARRY was shifted out, EUPHORIC KID (D Whyte) shifted in slightly, causing both horses to race tight for a considerable distance and then be checked when crowded for room outside the heels of KING PALM and inside the heels of DARTER. In the circumstances, no action was taken, however, both C Brown and D Whyte were advised to exercise care. Near the 600 Metres, EUPHORIC KID was steadied away from the heels of RACING SPIRIT which at this time was steadied away from the heels of UNIVERSAL PIONEER as that horse shifted towards the outside of IRISH GEM. On straightening, QUEST FOR LOVE was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of DARTER which at this time commenced to give ground. FIRST KNIGHT, which was following QUEST FOR LOVE, was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of that horse. Also on straightening, FLASH HARRY was bumped by EUPHORIC KID which shifted to the inside of DARTER. After the 400 Metres, DARTER, which was being eased out of the race by its rider, was steadied when crowded for room between QUEST FOR LOVE and SOLDIER ON which when improving into a narrow run on the outside of EUPHORIC KID was carried wider by that horse which in turn was carried out by FLASH HARRY which when shifting to the outside of RACING SPIRIT was carried out slightly by that horse which shifted when giving ground. In all the circumstances, the Stewards did not believe it was appropriate to take action against any rider. At the 250 Metres, GIDDY KIPPER, which was beginning to close the race off strongly, was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of RACING SPIRIT. After the 50 Metres, FIRST KNIGHT shifted in towards QUEST FOR LOVE. Because of this, C Munce straightened his mount and was momentarily disadvantaged. The performance of EXHILARATION, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, EXHILARATION will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. C Soumillon (UNIVERSAL PIONEER) said prior to the race he had been told by Mr J Moore, trainer of the horse, that as UNIVERSAL PIONEER did not have the benefit of a 10 lb apprentice allowance tonight, he should if possible obtain a position behind the leader and on straightening shift to the outside to make his run. He said it was discussed that UNIVERSAL PIONEER would have difficulty carrying the larger weight tonight in finishing the race off if use were made of it to hold the lead. EUPHORIC KID was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of EUPHORIC KID after the race did not show any significant findings. UNIVERSAL PIONEER, QUEST FOR LOVE and FIRST KNIGHT were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported DARTER had bled from both nostrils.
