Racing Incident Report
KING HESPERUS was withdrawn on 10.2.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter GALLANT KNIGHT (H K Yim). Before being allowed to race again, KING HESPERUS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GALLANT KNIGHT, which was standing badly, began awkwardly and lost ground. RIGHT CHOICE bounded in the air at the start. On jumping, ROYAL FALCON was bumped by LANCETTIER. At the 800 Metres, GALLANT KNIGHT shifted out when close to the heels of CALIFORNIA HEART which itself was steadied away from the heels of CROWNED GEM which steadied the tempo after crossing to the lead. After the 100 Metres, RIGHT CHOICE, which was closing the race off, was steadied and shifted out when unable to continue improving when close to the heels of CALIFORNIA HEART. For the major part of the race, FREEBIRD hung out. Throughout the race, BRAVE KNIGHT from the outside barrier travelled wide and without cover. DASHING CHAMPION and QI'S PET were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, DASHING CHAMPION was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had bled from both nostrils and was displaying an irregular heart beat. Before being allowed to race again, DASHING CHAMPION will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of QI'S PET after the race did not show any significant findings. EASY GAME, ROYAL FALCON and LANCETTIER were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted ROYAL FALCON had lost its right hind plate.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 13 February 2006)
QI'S PET, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. QI'S PET was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer C S Shum yesterday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the left hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, QI'S PET will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
