Racing Incident Report

TIME SUPREME was slow to begin, then shifted out, bumped the hindquarters of GALLANT FALCON and as a consequence lost further ground. BLOOM BLOOM, CLASSIC DELIGHT and SUNNY RIVIERA were slow to begin. SPARKLING STAR began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, TIME SUPREME, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of LUCKY PORT. At the same time, CLASSIC DELIGHT, which commenced to hang out, became unbalanced when racing inside TIME SUPREME. Making the Home Turn, TIME SUPREME hung out. On straightening, SPARKLING STAR was shifted to the inside of CLASSIC DELIGHT to go forward. Throughout the race, MY LANSON travelled wide and without cover and after the 200 Metres got its head on the side and hung in. The performance of BLOOM BLOOM, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, BLOOM BLOOM will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Y T Cheng (LUCKY MONEY) said approaching the turn at the 800 Metres he endeavoured to shift across to race outside SOLAR EMPIRE, however, his mount was reluctant to do so and as a consequence continued to race away from that horse rounding the turn. When questioned, F Coetzee (LUCKY PORT) said the intention had been to ride the horse similar to the manner in which it was ridden when it ran second at its most recent start, that was to be back in the field, have the horse relaxed and make his run down the outside. He said today LUCKY PORT began better and he was able to obtain a position in midfield without making any use of the horse. He said LUCKY PORT travelled three wide, however, that was not of a concern to him as it would ensure he had clear running in the Straight. He said when placed under pressure after straightening LUCKY PORT failed to respond to his riding, near the 200 Metres shifted out and was steadied away from the heels of TIME SUPREME. He said after the race LUCKY PORT felt uncomfortable in its action, however, this was not unusual for the horse. LUCKY PORT was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY PORT after the race did not show any significant findings. HAWKES BAY and GOOD PARTNER were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 20 February 2006)
LUCKY PORT, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. LUCKY PORT was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A S Cruz this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the right front leg with a swollen fetlock. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY PORT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
