Racing Incident Report

MAGNIFICENT HORSE was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was steadied when crowded for room between KING PALM and CHAMP DE UNION which got its head on the side and shifted out away from MASTER YING. DASHING FLAIR began awkwardly, bumped the inside gate of its stall and then was taken across behind runners. VICTORY CODE began awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall. PEACH BLOSSOM began awkwardly, shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of SPEED FIGHTER and shortly afterwards lost further ground when steadied away from the heels of EVEREST. After the 1000 Metres, KING PALM got its head up, shifted out and was steadied away from the heels of VICTORY CODE. For some distance after the 900 Metres, PEACH BLOSSOM was steadied when close to the heels of PERSEVERANCE which travelled wide and without cover throughout the race. At the 700 Metres, KING PALM, which was racing ungenerously, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of VICTORY CODE. WAFER KING, which was following, was steadied in consequence. Shortly after straightening, MAGNIFICENT HORSE was steadied and shifted out to obtain clear running. For some distance after straightening, EVEREST was steadied when held up behind MY PRIDE which at this stage commenced to give ground. Over about the final 100 Metres, DASHING FLAIR, which was closing the race off strongly, was held up, not able to improve behind MASTER YING and was unable to be tested. Then right on the winning post, DASHING FLAIR clipped the heels of MASTER YING and blundered when MASTER YING was racing tight inside CHAMP DE UNION. No action was taken. At the 50 Metres, EVEREST was momentarily steadied away from the heels of SPEED FIGHTER which shifted in. D Whyte (MY PRIDE) said the horse obtained a forward position as anticipated without having too much use made of it. He said MY PRIDE travelled comfortably in the run until straightening. He said at this time when asked to improve, MY PRIDE failed to respond to his riding and gave ground in the Straight. MY PRIDE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, MY PRIDE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, MY PRIDE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. VICTORY CODE and SPEED FIGHTER were sent for sampling.
