Racing Incident Report

When being saddled, THAT'S WIN became fractious. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. After arriving at the Start, it was noted FLYING DAGGER had spread its right front plate. FLYING DAGGER was re-plated and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. KING PALM, which was fractious in its stall, began awkwardly. EXCELLENT PARTNERS began awkwardly and lost a considerable amount of ground. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, WISDOM EXPRESS was steadied away from the heels of FLY ME TO THE MOON. Near the 600 Metres, TOP TOP LIGHT was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of FLYING DAGGER. Near the 300 Metres, EXCELLENT PARTNERS, which was closing the race off strongly, was shifted to the inside of LEADER which was giving ground. After this, when being ridden out, EXCELLENT PARTNERS became unbalanced and shifted out. As a result, M W Leung, its rider, stopped riding and straightened his mount. In the Straight, FLYING DAGGER hung out. Throughout the race, LEADER travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, Apprentice C K Tong (WISDOM EXPRESS) explained he followed FLY ME TO THE MOON into the Home Straight and when that horse shortly afterwards was having some difficulty obtaining clear running, he shifted out to a position behind FLYING DAGGER as he believed that horse would carry him forward. He said when he did this, WISDOM EXPRESS became somewhat unbalanced, he rode the horse along hands and heels to improve his position, then over the concluding stages was able to ride WISDOM EXPRESS out fully. LEADER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of LEADER after the race did not show any significant findings. FLY ME TO THE MOON and FLYING DAGGER were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported FLYING DAGGER and DRAGON INN had lost their left front plates.
