Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, it was noted WINNING PATTERN had its tongue over the bit. This was corrected prior to the horse being loaded. PROFIT HILL began awkwardly, shifted out and was steadied away from the heels of TIGER RIDGE. On jumping, VITAL PATROL and WINNING PATTERN bumped. Also on jumping, BLUE GENES and CANNONISE bumped. KINGS CROSS bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. In the early stages, SENSIBLE WAY hung in. After the 800 Metres, VITAL PATROL was steadied when crowded for room between DILIGENT and KINGS CROSS, both of which shifted ground. Near the 100 Metres, Apprentice K L Chui (SENSIBLE WAY) dropped his whip. Throughout the race, GRAND COMMANDS travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, O Doleuze (PROFIT HILL) said the horse had previously shown a reluctance to settle in its races, it was therefore decided today from a wide barrier to have the horse switched off in the hope it would close its race off. He said PROFIT HILL today travelled comfortably in the run in a rearward position, then in the Straight because of the tempo in which the race had been run closed the race off nicely. He did say near the 200 Metres when making ground he shifted PROFIT HILL in away from KINGS CROSS to continue going forward. W M Lai (VITAL PATROL) said in the early part of the Straight when riding the horse hands and heels it got its head up. He said because of this he continued to ride hands and heels whilst the horse was making some ground, then near the 100 Metres he hit VITAL PATROL with the whip. He said VITAL PATROL made further ground over the concluding stages, but in his opinion was only making ground on horses which were stopping. VITAL PATROL was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, VITAL PATROL was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, VITAL PATROL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HAR HAR CHARMS and CANNONISE were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported ROYAL DECREE had lost its right front plate.
