Racing Incident Report

GREAT FORTUNE was slow to begin and lost a considerable amount of ground. EVER KING began awkwardly and was slow to muster speed. At the 900 Metres, GREAT FORTUNE was steadied away from the heels of SNIPER. Near the 800 Metres, PURPLE GOLD got its head up when being steadied while awkwardly placed close to the heels of SNIPER and MEATH. HAPPY HEROES, which was following PURPLE GOLD, was inconvenienced in consequence. Making the turn after the 800 Metres, MONZA KING hung out. From the 400 Metres to the 300 Metres, CAN OPENER was held up and unable to improve between HONEST TREASURE and TRAVEL LEADER. After the 300 Metres, CAN OPENER was steadied and shifted out to obtain clear running. Near the 200 Metres, SNIPER, which had been racing ungenerously and hanging out, became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of CAN OPENER (R Fradd) which shifted ground when not properly clear. R Fradd was advised to exercise more care. GIANNI was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, GIANNI was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a displacement of the soft palate. The performance of GIANNI, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GIANNI will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GRABBIT, CAN OPENER and SUDDEN SPLENDOR were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 15 May 2006)
GIANNI, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a displacement of the soft palate. GIANNI was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A Lee yesterday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be "jarred up" in both front legs. As previously advised, GIANNI will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
