Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, GLOBAL FORTUNE was examined by the Veterinary Officer at the request of G Schofield, the horse's rider. After consulting with G Schofield, it was considered GLOBAL FORTUNE was suitable to race. From a wide barrier, SOUTHERN LIGHT on jumping was immediately taken across behind runners. On jumping, CONQUEROR was bumped by ONLY YOU which shifted in. Shortly after the start, CHOSEN ONE and MAVERICK were crowded for room between PALIO KING and WAFER KING which shifted in. In the early stages, CONQUEROR proved difficult to settle. R Quinn (TSUNAMI) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 900 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of CHOSEN ONE, causing that horse to be crowded onto the hindquarters of GLOBAL FORTUNE, lose its rightful running and be checked. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for R Quinn to be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 3 July 2006 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension is to take immediate effect. After the 200 Metres, LUCKY CORDELIA was steadied when attempting to improve between WAFER KING and BODACIOUS which shifted in slightly. The performance of ISLAND SUNRISE, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ISLAND SUNRISE will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. S K Sit (MODERN INTEREST), which was having its first start around a bend today, said he had been instructed to ride the horse with cover as in the past the horse had shown itself to be difficult to control. He said because of this he did not ride MODERN INTEREST along in the early stages and allowed the horse to settle in a rearward position, however, near the 1200 Metres MODERN INTEREST got beyond his control, travelled close to the heels of CHOSEN ONE and TSUNAMI, obliging him to check his mount severely. He said when he did his MODERN INTEREST shifted out abruptly and caused inconvenience to SOUTHERN LIGHT which was carried wider. He said after this he then allowed MODERN INTEREST to improve around the field rapidly, however, making the turn at the 800 Metres MODERN INTEREST hung out and continued to be difficult for him to control. He said because of the manner in which MODERN INTEREST raced he eased the horse down in the Home Straight. Before being allowed to race again, MODERN INTEREST will have to perform satisfactorily around a bend in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. S K Sit was fined $5,000 for misconduct in that he made improper gestures to members of the public when easing his mount down in the vicinity of the winning post. PALIO KING and MODERN INTEREST were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PALIO KING and MODERN INTEREST after the race did not show any significant findings. BODACIOUS, FAT DRAGON and MAVERICK were sent for sampling.
