Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, R Fradd (FLORAL FOKANZA) expressed concern over the horse's action during its preliminary. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was lame in the right front leg and as such was not suitable to race. Acting on this veterinary advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of FLORAL FOKANZA. Before being allowed to race again, FLORAL FOKANZA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ALWAYS HAPPY and AMBITIOUS LEADER were slow to begin. At the 350 Metres, KING OF SPADES, ALWAYS HAPPY and NEW TRIUMPH were badly hampered and carried wider by SAFETY FIRST which was initially hanging in, then shifted out abruptly when being checked to avoid the heels of PROPELLOR which when giving ground quickly shifted out slightly. In the circumstances, no action was taken. TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND travelled wide and without cover throughout. G Mossé (NEW TRIUMPH), which was racing over 1400 Metres for the first time today, said from a wide barrier he had been instructed to ride the horse quietly in the early stages in an endeavour to ensure the horse finished the race off. He said he had been advised in the past NEW TRIUMPH had raced keenly and therefore it was felt to go forward would be against the best interest of the horse with the increase in distance today. He said in accordance with his instructions he ensured NEW TRIUMPH did not begin well and then immediately shifted across to a position with cover near the rear. He said NEW TRIUMPH travelled nicely for him in the run, on straightening he shifted out into clear running, but shortly afterwards was hampered which caused NEW TRIUMPH to become unbalanced and lose momentum. He said after regaining its balance, NEW TRIUMPH closed the race off strongly. Mr Y S Tsui, trainer of NEW TRIUMPH, confirmed the instructions issued to G Mossé. He said when the horse last raced the instructions had been to have the horse in midfield if possible, however, NEW TRIUMPH over-raced. He said therefore today the intention was to have the horse properly relaxed to have it finish the race off. CHAMP DRAGON and PROPELLOR were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CHAMP DRAGON after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, PROPELLOR was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had sustained a laceration to the right hind hock. Before being allowed to race again, PROPELLOR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. RICH FOR ALL and NEW TRIUMPH were sent for sampling.
