Racing Incident Report

As the gates opened, PLEASURE PLEASURE lifted its front feet off the ground and as a consequence was slow to begin, then in the early stages proved difficult to settle. FRAMES DEPOT began awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall. FLASH HARRY bounded in the air at the start, then in the early stages proved very difficult to settle and was continually restrained away from the heels of UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR. Near the 800 Metres, FLASH HARRY was shifted out and allowed to improve around the outside of the field, then in the Straight gave ground. In the early and middle stages, GOOD TO GREAT travelled wide and without cover. At the 1100 Metres, PLEASURE PLEASURE got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of AMERICAN VICTORY which at this time was being steadied to allow DANSING FUN to cross in the lead. After the 1000 Metres, AMBITION was checked away from the heels of AMERICAN VICTORY which after being crossed by DANSING FUN got its head on the side and shifted out. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, AMBITION, FRAMES DEPOT and UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR were crowded for room. Prior to straightening, PILLOW KING and GOOD TO GREAT were carried wider by KIWI DASH which at this time shifted to the outside of UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR into clear running. For a short distance after straightening, STAR PRODIGY was held up and unable to improve. For a short distance after the 200 Metres, AMERICAN VICTORY had difficulty obtaining clear running between DANSING FUN and SPY KING. When questioned regarding the improved performance of DANSING FUN, Mr A T Millard, trainer of the horse, said at its last start from the outside barrier at Happy Valley DANSING FUN travelled wide, however, did have cover. He said DANSING FUN had been reluctant to hold a position in its races in the past when the intention had been to have the horse ridden around midfield. He said today he had instructed M Nunes, the rider of DANSING FUN, which was racing with blinkers removed, to obtain a position in midfield if possible, however, because of the tempo of the race, after beginning well DANSING FUN was able to obtain an uncontested lead. He said the tempo of today's race in his opinion was run to suit DANSING FUN. UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR and FLASH HARRY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR and FLASH HARRY after the race did not show any significant findings. KIWI DASH, DANSING FUN and MOONGLOW were sent for sampling.
