Racing Incident Report

SALUT BEAUTE began awkwardly and bumped with MONEY MAN. MONEY MAN then shifted in across the heels of AMO which was severely checked. MONEY MAN then shifted further and bumped ENCHANTED which became unbalanced and was steadied after making contact with the hindquarters of INDUSTRIAL MARVEL which also became unbalanced. Near the 1100 Metres, WINE WIN shifted out, resulting in KIMBERLEY MINES being taken out onto PLEZAYRE which became unbalanced, shifted out further and bumped LUCKY STRAVINSKY. When being steadied to obtain cover rounding the first turn, HARMONY got its head up on a number of occasions and proved difficult to settle. Near the 900 Metres, SALUT BEAUTE was momentarily crowded for room between HARMONY and LUCKY STRAVINSKY, both of which shifted ground. Rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, ENCHANTED was held up for clear running behind MONEY MAN. Throughout the race, LUCKY STRAVINSKY travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground and finished at the rear of the field. The performance of LUCKY STRAVINSKY, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, LUCKY STRAVINSKY will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned, Y T Cheng (LUCKY STRAVINSKY) stated his mount, which raced wide throughout the event, stumbled on two occasions during the race and then weakened noticeably in the Straight. When questioned, F Coetzee said he had been instructed to ride MONEY MAN in a forward position. He said after shifting in abruptly at the start, MONEY MAN was obliged to race further back than he had hoped. He said MONEY MAN travelled satisfactorily until rounding the 600 Metre turn at which point the horse got unbalanced in its action and continued to race awkwardly until the Home Straight. He said in the Straight MONEY MAN finished the race off only fairly. He said in his opinion MONEY MAN had difficulty handling the Happy Valley track. LUCKY STRAVINSKY, SALUT BEAUTE and MONEY MAN were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, SALUT BEAUTE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY STRAVINSKY and MONEY MAN after the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY STRAVINSKY, SALUT BEAUTE and MONEY MAN after the race did not show any significant findings. O DANNY BOY and KIMBERLEY MINES were sent for sampling.
