Racing Incident Report

At declaration time, D Whyte was declared as the rider of both NOBLE MAN and LIBERAL'S CHOICE. It was established that D Whyte had a firm commitment to ride NOBLE MAN. As such, the Stewards permitted A Delpech to be substituted as the rider of LIBERAL'S CHOICE. Mr J Size, trainer of LIBERAL'S CHOICE, was fined $2,000 for this error. After being boxed, SURVEY SURVEY became fractious, reared, hit its head on a partition in the barrier and sat down behind. SURVEY SURVEY was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion the horse was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of SURVEY SURVEY. Before being allowed to race again, SURVEY SURVEY will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When the gates opened, GREENESSY stood flat-footed and lost a considerable amount of ground. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, FAMOUS DANCER was steadied when crowded for room inside FERRO BEAU which was carried in by GREAT ACHIEVEMENT (Apprentice H W Lai). SILVER SUN, which was following FAMOUS DANCER, was hampered in consequence. As the Stewards were satisfied Apprentice Lai had endeavoured to straighten his mount, no action was taken. Near the 1300 Metres, GOOD PROFIT and FERRO BEAU raced tight inside GREAT ACHIEVEMENT. After the 1200 Metres, SILVER SUN was checked when crowded for room inside the hindquarters of GOODY which was racing tight inside NOBLE MAN. No action was taken. Near the 200 Metres, Apprentice K L Chui (GOODY) dropped his whip. After the 200 Metres, SILVER SUN improved into a narrow run on the inside of FAMOUS DANCER. Near the 100 Metres, GREENESSY, which was closing the race off fairly, was steadied and shifted to the inside of GREAT ACHIEVEMENT to continue going forward. Over the concluding stages, FAMOUS DANCER was awkwardly placed between SILVER SUN and GOOD PROFIT. Because of this, FAMOUS DANCER was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. When giving ground in the Straight, FERRO BEAU hung in. Throughout the race, LIBERAL'S CHOICE travelled wide and without cover. Also throughout the race, WEALTHY TREASURE travelled wide and without cover and gave ground from the 600 Metres. WEALTHY TREASURE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WEALTHY TREASURE after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of WEALTHY TREASURE was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, WEALTHY TREASURE will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CONESTOGA and GOODY were sent for sampling.
