Racing Incident Report
FLYING PROFILE began awkwardly and lost a considerable amount of ground. On jumping, NAMJONG MONEY lost ground when crowded for room between CHALLENGER and KNIGHT TEMPLAR which shifted in. Shortly after this, DANEPRINT and SUPER POWER were crowded for room between CHALLENGER which shifted in and NATURAL ECHO which was carried wider by STAR PRODIGY. In the early stages, STAR PRODIGY proved difficult to settle. S Dye (STAR PRODIGY) pleaded not guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that making the first turn he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of SUPER POWER, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. After having considered the submissions put by S Dye in answer to the charge, the Stewards did not believe the charge could be sustained. In arriving at that decision, they formed the opinion that after being shifted across to the fence inside runners in the early stages and then ridden along to improve its position, SUPER POWER was initially crowded for room inside STAR PRODIGY which shifted in, however, STAR PRODIGY was then carried in further by NATURAL ECHO (B Prebble) which shifted ground when not properly clear. In those circumstances, the Stewards did not believe S Dye was wholly responsible for the incident and advised both S Dye and B Prebble to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. DANEPRINT, SPRING SMILES and RED FORTUNE, which were following SUPER POWER, were all hampered in consequence. Approaching the 1800 Metres, SPRING SMILES became badly unbalanced after being steadied away from the heels of KNIGHT TEMPLAR, shifting in and bumping DANEPRINT. Passing the 1600 Metres, CHALLENGER was steadied when crowded for room inside CAPTAIN BUNNY (F Coetzee) which got its head on the side and shifted in when being ridden along to maintain a position towards the inside of WONG’S FAVOURITE. As the Stewards were satisfied F Coetzee attempted to straighten his mount, he was advised to exercise greater care. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, DANEPRINT jumped a shadow. After entering the Back Straight, KNIGHT TEMPLAR, which was proving difficult to settle, shifted out to a three wide position without cover. Passing the 400 Metres, FLYING PROFILE was steadied away from the heels of DANEPRINT which itself was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SUPER POWER which was giving ground. Near the 250 Metres, DANEPRINT raced tight inside CHALLENGER which was steadied and shifted to the inside of STAR PRODIGY which was giving ground. For some distance approaching the 200 Metres, FLYING PROFILE was held up and unable to obtain clear running. After this, FLYING PROFILE shifted to the outside of SPRING SMILES to improve its position. Passing the 100 Metres, CHALLENGER was shifted in after being steadied away from the heels of WONG’S FAVOURITE which hung out. O Doleuze (RED FORTUNE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after passing the 100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of SPRING SMILES, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. CAPTAIN BUNNY, which was following, was hampered in consequence. O Doleuze was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 16 December 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday 9 December 2007. In addition, O Doleuze was fined $20,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 1 further raceday. STAR PRODIGY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, STAR PRODIGY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had sustained a cut to the right hock as a result of being galloped on. Before being allowed to race again, STAR PRODIGY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. NATURAL ECHO and RED FORTUNE were sent for sampling.
