Racing Incident Report
SEASONS KNACK was slow to begin. In the early stages, CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE travelled wide and without cover. At the 1700 Metres, DR WELL was steadied away from the heels of GREEN IN BLUE. Near the 900 Metres, DR WELL was carried wider by MAN IN THE MIRROR which shifted out to go forward. Near the 600 Metres, GREEN IN BLUE became unbalanced and was checked when disappointed for running between CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE and PUERTO RICO. After the 500 Metres, LIAOBUQI failed to maintain its position despite being ridden along. INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS, SIR LAGO and AMSTERDAM, which were following, were unable to improve and as a consequence lost ground. Prior to straightening, CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE was checked when awkwardly placed between PUERTO RICO and LIAOBUQI which when giving ground shifted out. In the Straight, FANTASTIC GUY and SEASONS KNACK hung in. When questioned, D Beadman (AMSTERDAM) said he had been instructed to ride the horse in 2nd or 3rd last position. He said because of this in the Straight on the first occasion and for some distance afterwards despite there being an opportunity for him to race on the back of MAN IN THE MIRROR, he elected to endeavour to settle his mount which allowed SIR LAGO to shift to a position on the rail in front of him. He said as a consequence of this when MAN IN THE MIRROR commenced to improve its position near the 900 Metres, he was unable to shift out and follow that horse forward. He said then in the Straight AMSTERDAM failed to quicken when placed under pressure and in his opinion was disappointing. AMSTERDAM was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of AMSTERDAM after the race did not show any significant findings. MAN IN THE MIRROR and MASTERY were sent for sampling.
