Racing Incident Report
SILVER WRAITH and SMARTY were slow to begin. Shortly after the start, SUPER DRAGON was steadied when crowded for room between CHOSEN ONE and SHANGHAI DELIGHT which on jumping was carried wider by NEW COMMAND. Near the 500 Metres, FLORAL ARTS, which commenced to give ground, was steadied to avoid the heels of SHANGHAI DELIGHT (H K Yim) which shifted in when not properly clear. H K Yim was reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. When FLORAL ARTS steadied, CENAMIRA which was following was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of that horse. Consideration was given to a protest/objection lodged by E Saint-Martin, the rider of CHOSEN ONE, dead heat 4th placegetter, against SILVER WRAITH (C Soumillon) being declared the winner for alleged interference shortly after the 400 Metres. The evidence disclosed that shortly after the 400 Metres CHOSEN ONE was checked to avoid the heels of SILVER WRAITH which at this time was shifted to the inside of FRIENDS FOREVER into clear running. Having in mind the margin between the two horses at the end of the race, the Stewards could not be satisfied that had the interference which did take place not occurred CHOSEN ONE would have finished in front of SILVER WRAITH. Therefore the protest/objection was overruled. Accordingly the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed. At a subsequent inquiry, C Soumillon pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. C Soumillon was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 5 February 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday 28 January 2007. In addition, C Soumillon was fined $40,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. After the 400 Metres, FRIENDS FOREVER was steadied and shifted to the outside of PAY-DAY to obtain clear running. CENAMIRA, SILVER WRAITH and NEW COMMAND were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported SUPER DRAGON had sustained a laceration to the right front cannon.
