Racing Incident Report

Whilst in the saddling stalls, SUPER HONEY shifted its right hind plate. This plate was reset. SUPER HONEY was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. FAT DRAGON, which was standing with its head turned to the left, was slow to begin. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, SYDNEY EXPRESS, which at this time was being ridden along, was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of JUBILOSO. Near the 1300 Metres, SYDNEY EXPRESS was checked when momentarily crowded for room inside the hindquarters of JUBILOSO which shifted in slightly away from CAGA BOY. No action was taken. Making the Home Turn, PERFECT FEELING and SUNBELL were crowded for room when tight inside the heels of FAT DRAGON. Also making the Home Turn, SYDNEY EXPRESS was held up and on straightening was shifted to the inside of EVERGREEN. Throughout the race, MAGI JOY travelled wide and without cover. Mr D E Ferraris, the trainer of PERFECT FEELING, explained the riding instructions were to have the horse running in 5th or 6th position if possible. He said it was anticipated the pace of the race would be strong and he felt PERFECT FEELING from a favourable draw would be best suited ridden in this manner. G Mossé, the rider of PERFECT FEELING, confirmed the riding instructions issued and explained PERFECT FEELING began fairly, he allowed horses which had drawn to his inside and were being ridden along to go forward of him, then about 50 Metres after the start shifted across behind those runners and commenced to ride his mount along to obtain a midfield position. He said shortly after this SYDNEY EXPRESS shifted in quite abruptly when barely clear of him, as a result of which he steadied PERFECT FEELING. He said this caused PERFECT FEELING to travel further back than was intended. The explanation submitted by G Mossé was accepted. S Dye (FORTUNE WARRIOR) explained at no stage of tonight's race did the horse travel well and failed to finish the race off as anticipated. D Whyte (SUPER HONEY) said his mount did not relax during the run with MAGI JOY racing to its outside. He said shortly after straightening SUPER HONEY felt unbalanced in its action and commenced to give ground quickly He was not able to offer any explanation for the performance of SUPER HONEY. The performance of SUPER HONEY was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, SUPER HONEY will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned, E Saint-Martin (KING OF FISH) explained he was concerned with the action of the horse during the preliminary and felt it was sore in its right front leg. He said after arriving at the Start he had KING OF FISH examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion the horse trotted sound and was suitable to race. E Saint-Martin said the intention had been for KING OF FISH to lead albeit in a prominent position. He said when the gates opened he almost immediately felt KING OF FISH was not normal in its action and did not feel to him to be striding as it had when he had ridden the horse previously. He said because of this he did not ride KING OF FISH along, but endeavoured to have the horse balanced. He said approaching the first turn when the action of KING OF FISH did not improve, he eased the horse wider on the track and then out of the race. KING OF FISH was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, KING OF FISH was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. E Saint-Martin was told his explanation would be reported. Before being permitted to race again, KING OF FISH will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FORTUNE WARRIOR and SUPER HONEY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of FORTUNE WARRIOR and SUPER HONEY after the race did not show any significant findings. EVERGREEN and PERFECT FEELING were sent for sampling.
