Racing Incident Report
SANZIRO was slow to begin. From wide barriers, WATCH WHAT HAPPENS and ROYAL PERICLES were taken back. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, HIGH INTELLIGENT failed to muster speed. At the 1100 Metres, STEP TO WIN and ELEGANT WIN bumped. After this, STEP TO WIN proved difficult to settle when racing wide and without cover. At the 1000 Metres, SANZIRO was steadied when crowded for room between HIGH INTELLIGENT and ELITE CHAMPION (B Prebble) which shifted in when not properly clear. B Prebble was told to exercise greater care. Near the 700 Metres, HIGH INTELLIGENT was steadied when crowded for room between ELITE CHAMPION which was carried in slightly by HIGH POINT and LUCKY WINNER which shifted out while hanging. In the circumstances, no action was taken. After this, LUCKY WINNER continued to hang out in the middle stages. In the middle stages, ROYAL PERICLES was left racing wide and without cover. After the 600 Metres, HIGH INTELLIGENT was steadied when awkwardly placed outside LUCKY WINNER and inside the heels of ELITE CHAMPION. SANZIRO, which was following, was steadied away from the heels of HIGH INTELLIGENT which shifted out slightly. After the 400 Metres, INSPIRATION was steadied and shifted in when disappointed for running between ELEGANT WIN and DIAMOND BRILLIANCE (Apprentice H W Lai) which at this time shifted to the outside of STEP TO WIN into clear running when not clear of INSPIRATION. In the circumstances, Apprentice Lai was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. For some distance after this, INSPIRATION was held up and unable to obtain clear running. At the 150 Metres, MARIBEAU was momentarily steadied away from the heels of HIGH POINT which shifted in when barely clear. Some inconvenience was caused to ELEGANT WIN which at this time was giving ground. Over the concluding stages, HIGH INTELLIGENT hung in. CHATER POWER and KINDACROSS were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CHATER POWER after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, KINDACROSS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, KINDACROSS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HIGH POINT and INSPIRATION were sent for sampling.
