Racing Incident Report
SEASONS KNACK was withdrawn on 14.2.08 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore). Before being allowed to race again, SEASONS KNACK will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Shortly after the start, ELECTRONICS SPUR and AMSTERDAM bumped. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, AMSTERDAM was bumped and carried wider by INDUSTRIAL EXPRESS which at this time shifted to the outside of LOCAL POWER. After this, AMSTERDAM was left racing without cover. In the early part of the Straight, INDUSTRIAL EXPRESS and LONDON EXPRESS had difficulty obtaining clear running. Approaching and passing the 200 Metres, SEA TREASURE had difficulty obtaining clear running. For the majority of the Home Straight, LOCAL POWER was held up and unable to obtain clear running and near the 100 Metres was steadied when disappointed for running between LONDON EXPRESS and FANTASTIC DANCER. As a consequence of this, LOCAL POWER was not properly tested. Near the 100 Metres, AMSTERDAM was checked to avoid the heels of INDUSTRIAL EXPRESS (D Whyte) which at this time got its head on the side and shifted out abruptly. In the circumstances, D Whyte was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. At the 100 Metres, ELECTRONICS SPUR was steadied when awkwardly placed between AMSTERDAM which shifted out slightly and FLORAL NIRVANA which shifted in while hanging. Close to the line, LONDON EXPRESS was steadied away from the heels of INDUSTRIAL EXPRESS which shifted in abruptly. M Nunes (FANTASTIC DANCER) reported making the first turn when his mount was proving difficult to settle, his saddle shifted forward and as a consequence he was placed at a disadvantage. B Prebble (FLORAL NIRVANA) explained from an awkward gate he was instructed to ride the horse quietly in the early stages as it was believed the horse possesses the necessary finishing sprint to close off over the top of other runners. He said it was felt if the horse were ridden to go forward in the early stages, it might be left racing wide and without cover making the first turn. He said FLORAL NIRVANA travelled comfortably in a rearward position, however, was not suited by the moderate tempo of the race. He said in the Straight FLORAL NIRVANA initially hung in, then close to the line shifted out abruptly. LOCAL POWER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, LOCAL POWER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. INDUSTRIAL EXPRESS and LONDON EXPRESS were sent for sampling.
