Racing Incident Report

FILEBO was slow to begin. In the early stages, LUCKY CORDELIA proved difficult to settle, near the 1200 Metres raced ungenerously when awkwardly placed inside the heels of DIAGHILEV which shifted in when barely clear, then afterwards was left racing wide and without cover until near the 700 Metres. In the early and middle stages, WITHALLMYHEART proved difficult to settle. Near the 1000 Metres, LEADER got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of DIAMOND FLYER. In the early part of the Straight, LUCKY CORDELIA hung in. At the 350 Metres, MULTI-WIN SPIRIT was steadied when disappointed for running between DIAGHILEV and WITHALLMYHEART. After this, MULTI-WIN SPIRIT was shifted out to obtain clear running. O Doleuze (SIMPLY JOY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 300 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear DIAMOND FLYER, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. In this incident, LUCKY CORDELIA was bumped by DIAMOND FLYER and became unbalanced and both LEADER and FILEBO which were following were steadied in consequence. O Doleuze was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 31 March 2008 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting next Wednesday 19 March 2008. In addition, O Doleuze was fined $40,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. In the Straight, GEM POWER hung in. When questioned regarding the poor performance of RAMPANT LION, D Beadman said his mount travelled in a rearward position as expected. He said he had cover behind SIMPLY JOY until near the 700 Metres, however, at that time when LEADER shifted out from inside him, he was carried to a four wide position without cover. He said in the Straight RAMPANT LION did not quicken in the manner in which it has in its previous starts. He said the manner in which RAMPANT LION raced today indicated to him the horse may now be better suited racing over a distance of further than the 1400 Metres of today’s race. LEADER was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, LEADER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, LEADER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DIAMOND FLYER and RAMPANT LION were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DIAMOND FLYER and RAMPANT LION after the race did not show any significant findings. SIMPLY JOY and MULTI-WIN SPIRIT were sent for sampling.

LEADER
LEADER, which performed poorly, was examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison after the race. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. LEADER was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer C H Yip this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its right front leg. As previously advised, LEADER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
DIAMOND FLYER
DIAMOND FLYER, which performed poorly, was examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison after the race. He said at that time there were no significant findings.
