Racing Incident Report

DURABLE was withdrawn on 4.4.08 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter FIRST KNIGHT (M Nunes). Before being allowed to race again, DURABLE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. KING FAY FAY was slow to begin. MAJESTIC HEART began awkwardly, got its head up and lost ground. Near the 1200 Metres, KING FAY FAY raced tight inside AMAZING VENTURE which was close to the heels of HAPPY AMBASSADOR. After this, KING FAY FAY commenced to over-race and near the 1000 Metres shifted out, carrying AMAZING VENTURE wider. After the 1000 Metres, KING FAY FAY was steadied when crowded for room inside AMAZING VENTURE which at this time shifted back in. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, KING FAY FAY and AMAZING VENTURE were steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of HAPPY AMBASSADOR which was steadied away from the heels of REDHILL COMMANDER which made the turn awkwardly. CHEERFUL HAPPINESS, which was following, was checked in consequence. Near the 300 Metres, KING FAY FAY was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running inside REDHILL COMMANDER which when giving ground got its head on the side and hung in away from HAPPY AMBASSADOR. Passing the 300 Metres, FIRST KNIGHT had some difficulty obtaining clear running. At the 200 Metres, P H Lo (LUCKY DRAGON) dropped his whip. For the major part of the race, LUCKY DRAGON travelled wide and without cover. Mr A T Millard (SEVENS HEAVEN) said the instructions had been to ride the horse in 4th or 5th position if possible. He said SEVENS HEAVEN in the past has not always begun well and as a consequence has travelled further back in the field. He said today after beginning well SEVENS HEAVEN travelled in a forward position. M W Leung (CHEERFUL HAPPINESS) explained he was instructed to allow the horse to begin and travel where it was comfortable, however, he should obtain cover. He said it was pointed out to him that CHEERFUL HAPPINESS had won when racing in a rearward position previously. He said CHEERFUL HAPPINESS began fairly, he noticed a number of runners to his inside were immediately ridden along to go forward and he therefore attempted to come back on CHEERFUL HAPPINESS. He said as he did this BITE MY DUST which was racing to his outside also came back which resulted in him having to travel further back than intended to obtain a position with cover. He said when ridden in this manner CHEERFUL HAPPINESS closed the race off strongly. B Prebble (HAPPY AMBASSADOR) said his mount raced “flat” today. D Whyte (KING FAY FAY) said his mount was stirred up prior to the race. He said after racing in restricted room in the early stages, KING FAY FAY commenced to over-race and would not relax. He said in the Straight KING FAY FAY was disappointing in the manner in which it closed the race off. He said he believed the horse’s poor performance was due to it not relaxing today both prior to and during the race. KING FAY FAY and LUCKY DRAGON were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of KING FAY FAY and LUCKY DRAGON after the race did not show any significant findings. AMAZING VENTURE, SEVENS HEAVEN and MAJESTIC HEART were sent for sampling.
