Racing Incident Report

PERFECT SMILE was withdrawn on 29.4.08 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter GOOD PARTNER (B Prebble). Before being allowed to race again, PERFECT SMILE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SPORTING STAR was slow to begin. ANIMATION was slow to begin, then lost further ground when bumped by FULL BLESSINGS which shifted in. In this incident, FULL BLESSINGS also became unbalanced. ROYAL PORTRAIT, which was standing badly, began awkwardly and bumped with OCTAGONAL CANYON. From a wide barrier, CHEERFUL HAPPINESS began awkwardly and was taken across behind runners. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, ANIMATION, which was travelling wide and without cover, was bumped by ROYAL PORTRAIT which shifted out. After this, ANIMATION continued to travel wide and without cover. Also making the turn at the 800 Metres, BITE MY DUST was checked when crowded for room inside CHAMPION LAD (M Nunes) which initially shifted in when not properly clear and then itself was steadied away from the heels of ROYAL PORTRAIT. CHEERFUL HAPPINESS, which was following, was steadied in consequence. In the circumstances, M Nunes was reprimanded and told to ensure he is properly clear before shifting ground. Prior to straightening, ROYAL PORTRAIT raced tight inside ANIMATION. S K Sit (ROYAL PORTRAIT) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that in the early part of the Straight he failed to take sufficient measures to prevent his mount from shifting ground, resulting in it on two occasions coming into contact with ANIMATION, causing that horse to be hampered. As the Stewards are aware the Club had made an application to stage a racemeeting on Wednesday 14 May 2008, they decided in the circumstances of this case that the appropriate penalty was for S K Sit’s licence to ride in races be suspended for a period to expire on Thursday 15 May 2008 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Sunday 4 May 2008. If approval is not given for the Club to stage a racemeeting on 14 May 2008, S K Sit was advised the Stewards will make a further order. On the first occasion of ANIMATION (E Saint-Martin) being bumped by ROYAL PORTRAIT, GOOD PARTNER which was racing to the outside of ANIMATION was hampered and CHAMPION LAD which was following was steadied and shifted out in consequence. Near the 200 Metres, ROYAL PORTRAIT was struck over the head by the whip of E Saint-Martin (ANIMATION). E Saint-Martin was told on the evidence the Stewards could not be satisfied that this was an intentional act on his behalf, however, he should at all times do his utmost to prevent his whip coming into contact with another horse or rider. CHEERFUL HAPPINESS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CHEERFUL HAPPINESS after the race did not show any significant findings. OPERA MAGIC, SEVENS HEAVEN and ANIMATION were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported FULL BLESSINGS had lost its left front plate and had sustained a cut to its left front heel.
