Racing Incident Report

SUPER BABY was slow to begin. On jumping, BOLD WIN and EIGHT PLUS NINE which began awkwardly bumped. From a wide barrier, BODACIOUS was taken across behind runners in the early stages. In the early stages, despite being ridden along, WONG’S SUCCESS failed to muster speed, then approaching the 1400 Metres was steadied when awkwardly placed between SUPER BABY and SPECIAL DAYS which shifted out. At the 600 Metres, BOLD WIN, which was racing tight inside SPECIAL DAYS, was not able to maintain its position. After the 200 Metres, when being ridden out, BODACIOUS hung in, causing S K Sit, its rider, to stop riding and straighten. Near the 100 Metres, the whip of O Doleuze (HAPPY MASTER) was knocked from his hand by the whip of Apprentice K L Chui (BOLD WIN). In the Straight, PACHINKO hung in. D Whyte (SPECIAL DAYS) explained his mount bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. He said after this SPECIAL DAYS commenced to over-race badly and would not settle for him, on a number of occasions got its head up and as a consequence travelled in a three wide position. He said SPECIAL DAYS continued to over-race and making the turn at the 800 Metres was left racing wide and without cover. He said SPECIAL DAYS did not relax until the 500 Metres and as a consequence of the manner in which it had raced in the early stages was not able to finish the race off today. When questioned regarding the poor performance of MUTUAL FUN, D Beadman said his mount did not travel at any stage of the race and in his opinion raced like a tired horse. Mr J Moore, trainer of MUTUAL FUN, said he now intended to give MUTUAL FUN a freshen up. MUTUAL FUN and SUPER BABY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MUTUAL FUN and SUPER BABY after the race did not show any significant findings. SPECIAL DAYS, LUCKY MONEY and LIVERBIRD were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported PACHINKO was making an abnormal breathing noise. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to be an early “roarer”.
