Racing Incident Report

WIN A DOZEN was withdrawn on 10.6.08 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter QUALITY-QUALITY (D Whyte). DRAGON EYE was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore foot). Before being allowed to race again, WIN A DOZEN and DRAGON EYE will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Shortly after the start, WHATAFANTASY was checked when crowded for room outside LUCKY FRUIT (S K Sit) which shifted out slightly. S K Sit was reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. In the early stages, FLY HIGH was taken back. Prior to straightening, KINGIFLY was checked severely when crowded for room inside LUCKY FRUIT which shifted in after being carried back by GUAN DAO which commenced to give ground. In the circumstances, no action was taken. QUALITY-QUALITY, which was following, was steadied and shifted out in consequence. Throughout the race, DREAM HORSE travelled wide and without cover. D Whyte, the rider of QUALITY-QUALITY, placed 7th, pleaded guilty to a charge of having failed to ride his mount out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards [Rule 100(2)]. For this breach, D Whyte was fined $20,000. When questioned regarding his riding approaching and rounding the Home Turn, G Mossé (FLY HIGH) explained he had been told to ride the horse quietly in an endeavour to have it close its race off. He said he rode FLY HIGH in accordance with those instructions and approaching and passing the 400 Metres he did consider improving his position on the inside of MASTER GREEN, however, he did not do so at that time as he felt he would be able to improve his position just prior to straightening. He said just prior to straightening he commenced to ride FLY HIGH along for a short distance, however, at that time MASTER GREEN shifted in in front of him and as a consequence he was not able to improve his position. He said in the Straight he remained towards the inside and FLY HIGH closed off strongly. G Mossé was told to ensure he avails himself of opportunities to improve his position as they present themselves. MASTER GREEN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MASTER GREEN after the race did not show any significant findings. WIN AGAIN, DREAM HORSE and THUNDER FLASH were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 12 June 2008)
The Veterinary Officer reported that QUALITY-QUALITY was this morning found to have an ulcer to the right eye. Before being allowed to race again, QUALITY-QUALITY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
