Racing Incident Report

On jumping, CONFUCIUS CLASSIC and SUPER GOAL MASTER were taken back from wide barriers. Also on jumping, the left foot of K L Chui (REGENCY HORSE) slipped from his iron. This was re-gathered shortly after the start. MI REILLY and MAMMA MIA were slow to begin. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, THUNDER DANCING was steadied when awkwardly placed between JOLLY GOOD FORTUNE and NATIVE KID. Also making the turn at the 1000 Metres, FINGERS CROSSED got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of MI REILLY. Prior to straightening, CONFUCIUS CLASSIC was steadied and shifted to the outside of FLY HIGH. On straightening, MI REILLY was bumped by WIN A DOZEN which was shifted to the outside of NATIVE KID. Shortly after straightening, GALACTIC TACTIC was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of NATIVE KID which was giving ground. For a considerable distance after straightening, FLY HIGH and THUNDER DANCING raced tight. FINGERS CROSSED, which was following, was steadied when disappointed for running between those horses shortly after straightening. FINGERS CROSSED then had difficulty obtaining clear running until near the 200 Metres and over the final 100 Metres did not obtain clear running. Because of this, FINGERS CROSSED was not fully tested. The performance of NATIVE KID, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, NATIVE KID will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Throughout the race, REGENCY HORSE travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the poor performance of GALACTIC TACTIC, C K Tong explained the intention had been to ride his mount in a forward position as is usual. He said after being crossed by WIN A DOZEN in the early stages, that horse then handed up the lead and as a consequence GALACTIC TACTIC travelled further back than intended in midfield. He said the tempo of tonight's race meant that he had to make use of his mount in an endeavour to maintain his position and as a consequence it did not finish the race off. MAMMA MIA and GALACTIC TACTIC were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MAMMA MIA and GALACTIC TACTIC after the race did not show any significant findings. MI REILLY, SUPER GOAL MASTER and CONFUCIUS CLASSIC were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the trachea of FINGERS CROSSED. Before being allowed to race again, FINGERS CROSSED will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
